A buddy called me this morning, wanted to know if I wanted to go to a small, local fire dept. gun show. Wasn't going to, since I am trying to "cut back" some on gun purchases, but went for the ride...

Boy, I am glad I did. These small, local shows don't attract many plastic dealers, just a lot of locals with their blued steel and walnut. Never know what you will find...

First up, I spotted a 5 1/2 inch 3 screw Ruger Single Six with the extra .22 mag. cylinder. Action is tight and crisp, bore excellent, finish very nice. No box. Grips are home made, not great, but I have extras in my grip box. Marked at $375, he took $350 for it, a very good deal I thought, and it replaces the same gun I had back when I was a teenager.

But, it gets better.....:)

Spotted a nice shiny N frame. Hmmmm.. Turned out to be a 6.5 inch no dash 4 screw model 29 dating to 1959 (my birth year). EDITED To Add - I have since learned this gun dates to 1960, not '59. Gold bead Patridge front sight. Gun is in excellent overall shape. A really nice example. No box, tools, or original paperwork. He was asking $1800. He took my $1400 offer. A good deal here, as well, I thought. I am really thrilled to add this 4 screw to the herd. Any marks on the gun are most all reflection. I love these small shows.

Anyone else with any good show finds lately?

I went to a small (100 table) show at a fire hall about 30 miles from home this morning. I thought I was going to buy some .243 & 22 Hornet ammo but the seller was kinda jerky so I said no thanks. Same old story. Guys have ridiculous prices on everything and never sell anything. On my way out I spotted an old leather Sap. Gave the seller $20. I don't know why it just looked neat. Took it home and oiled it up. It was kinda dry.

Bald1 - When I started with the CSP they had done away with saps not to much earlier. Some of the older guys talked about them with reverence....

Nice snag.

Saps the energy out of you lol.
I really don't know. When I was a kid my dad had a black leather one that was flat. He called it a slap Jack or black Jack. In today's environment there's ZERO chance a LEO could carry or use one.

I had a friend that was a Worthington, Ohio cop. He had joined the force before the prohibition, and was grandfathered in. There was a small mental hospital that had a large man that like to walk away. My friend was the officer that got the duty of returning the patient. He used "Sap Gloves", black leather with lead shot pocket across the back of the fingers and palm area. It sometimes took i5 minutes of convincing the patient to come along peacefully! As the patient got much older, all it too was for my friend to show up with the gloves on. It became more of a 20-minute stroll on a nice moon lite night kind of event.

After my friend retired, a young officer took the call. Used a tazer or some such and caused a fatal heart attack. Any equipment requires proper usage!

Don't sound like you did that bad Ben..:)

I know I got a good deal on that 29, but I still find it hard to wrap my head around the fact that not all that long ago, you could find nice P&R 29's in the case for $500 or so. I'm not that old. Now, just the original "Coke" grips bringing five, six hundred bucks. Crazy, but that is were the market is I guess.
