Just wanted to drop in and say hello to everyone and share my story. I was once an opponent of the 2nd amendment because I thought that guns in the wrong hands can be deadly but because of 3 recent events I have a whole new admiration for the 2nd amendment and the fine people who live each day to preserve its rights.

1) The ATF's "Fast and Furious" program made me wonder why the government condemns legal gun owners but allows illegal guns to be given to criminals.

2) The London riots taught me that evil never needs a reason to act out but citizens (the shop owners and residents) are at the mercy of their government to protect them and government has proven again that it's incapable of doing anything correctly.

3) My friend lost a bet (but won the war with converting me) that it was too hard to get a firearm in California. I'll admit that if anyone can't pass the written test to purchase a firearm shouldn't own one but the fees and hoops they put you through to legally own a handgun is ridiculous.

Other then that please accept my apologies in advance if I ask basic questions and if anyone is interested I just purchased a S&W Sigma SW9VE.

Hi from the desert. Welcome and let us know how it shoots.

Another welcome aboard from the desert. I think we are a pretty good group here, but thicken your skin towards the opinions of California. Some of those even come from those of us who live here.

Don't agree at all. I am personally better armed than many small countries!

Sure you have to jump through a few hoops, but still one is able to arm themself extremely well! If you can live with the minor annoyance of a bullet button, you can have any millitary rifle you want. My gun collection wouldn't be any different (given that there are some guns I will probably never be able to afford), if I lived in Arizona. Sounds like you are selling yourself short!

California is a great state. The most beautiful place I have ever seen, if you stay away from LA, and Fresno ;). You could spend a lifetime exploring California and still not see everything. I have always heard that us southerners were friendly but I found Californians just a freindly.
The Sigma was my very first handgun purchase too. Learn how to use it and it will serve you well.

Not true. When I got stationed here, I found out that my Colt 6920 was listed by name on the California AWB. To my understanding there is no way to make it California compliant (even though it is no different from any other AR). That is why it currently sits in my BIL's safe.

But you could go down and buy the equivalent....save for the minor annoyance of a bullet button.

Ones ultimate ability to arm themselves extremely well, is no different in this state than any other. Jump through hoops maybe, but in the end you can still be able to launch a ton of lead. If one is so disaffected that they think otherwise, they are just being foolish and buying into a lot of internet BS!

Oh don't worry I'll probably agree with 80% of the comments about California (especially LA). I've moved as far east from LA as I can (Inland Empire) and my next move will definitely be out of state.

Edit:
I forgot to talk about my first reactions to the Sigma SW9VE. I rented it over the weekend at my local gun range and I love it. It feels much better in my hands than the Walther P22 that I had to rent because my wife couldn't handle the Sigma's trigger. The only negative (and it's nothing about the gun) is the price of the bullets compared to the 22s. 50 (9mm) rounds @ $12 compared to 350 (22LR) rounds @ $20 means not as much fun as I want.

Not to be snide, but if you are only getting 350 rounds of plinking grade 22 LR for 20 bucks you are shopping in the wrong place. I know CA is pricier than other places, but that seems out of line. I get a 500 round brick for under $20.

Have you looked at Wally World? I didn't expect them to sell ammo in CA, but to my surprise the one in Arroyo Grande does. I know AG isn't near you, but am using that as an example.

Welcome from Texas kingsfan626. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

No need for any apology. We are grateful and excited to have you into our fold.
