I bought S&W mod 4565 about 4 months ago. I know very little about the pistol's history. The salesman at the gun shop here in NC told me it was a one owner trade in from a retired police officer. I have found nothing helpful on the internet. So, I would be very appreciative of any and all information that I can get. I love shooting it!

Thanks in sdvance!

Welcome!

You're in the right place for the information you're looking for. Some of our experts on these guns will be along to help.

A 4565, if it exists, would be a blued (carbon) steel version of the 4566. Pictures would help clear up what model you have.

I must apologize for my error. As I started taking pictures of my pistol , I zoomed on the model number and saw it is a 4566. I must be even more blind than I thought! But I would still like input on the pistol and any differences there is between it and a M&P.

And a....

And a Hound Dawg Howdy to you from SC!

The four number designation means that it is a 'third generation' S&W Semi. They are EXCELLENT guns and are in demand as they aren't made anymore. (damn shame).

Google 'Guide to Smith and Wesson semi auto pistols.and you can see how the numbering/model system worked. At that time it was consistent and made perfect sense.

PS: I have a 5943 and wouldn't mind having a few dozen different models.

Welcome aboard from coastal North Carolina.

I'd go back to the gun shop to ask the guy to have the oringinal owner call me. A call to S&W customer service will get you some info.

Welcome from a fellow North Carolinian!

For additional information on your pistol, I suggest you start another thread and include a photo of the other side of the gun as well, and post it in the Semi-Autos section. There are a number of very knowledgeable 45ACP guys there who can be very helpful. They might not see your post here in the New Members section.

I noticed right away that yours has the hooked trigger guard that indicates this would be from the earliest manufacture of these guns, but that's about all I can tell.
