I have several S&W revolvers with wood grips (686+) but recently bought a 686 plus 4" that has a rubber grip with the screw at the bottom. Can I change out this grip for wood grips with the screw in the center of the grip vs the bottom? And, what would you recommend? Thanks

Got ahead of myself here. Called Altamont Grips and they answered my question. Thanks anyway.

Yes you can. I would find K/L S&W speed loader cut out Goncalo Alves checkered targets

Odd, the new 4" 686+ that I recently purchased has that OEM (?) finger groove, Allen screw rubber grip that nobody except me seems to like. Wonder what accounts for this variation in grips? Not a fan of the Hogue concept, but they are pleasant to shoot with.

You are absolutely right. I got my 617 and my 686 confused. My 686 does have an allen head in the grip. I do like the Hogue grips but they don't look as nice. Comfort or ascetics? Have to choose.

Yeah you can remove the rubber and install wood. Do some research on round vs square butt to be sure that you get the right grip. Personally, I went from wood to rubber just for comfort and better fit on my 686. On my 586 I stayed with the OEM wood.
