Won't get my new auction wins for a while yet, but with the grip topics, I figured I would get schooled on what is on the pre-10 I bought. "Pretty" sure the grips are not original. Serial number C116622. Attached are pictures of pictures I took off of the seller site. Best I can do for now. Thanks.

Your M&P is from 1950.

You are correct about the target stocks. First, a 1950 M&P wouldn't have shipped with target stocks; Second, the target stocks with the extractor relief were about 5 years away from introduction at that time.

That does look like a pretty nice five-screw .38 Military & Police model, but it appears to have been refinished, almost certainly not by S&W.
 
Yup, refinished early 50's M&P revolver with diamond target stocks.
The stocks are not original, but are sill worth $100-$150 at auction.

No idea wha you paid, but it should be a good shooter.
