Hi all,

I hope I have posted a couple of picture below, of the grips on my 25-2, 1966-67 vintage. It's difficult to show in a photo, (for me anyway), but the grips have some machining marks on them that I haven't noticed on my later (70's) vintage guns.

You can see at the bottom rear part of the grip a slight flat spot, and in other areas they have some kind of hard edges. It looks as though when they originally ran them through the shaper, or whatever they used to cut the basic form, they then didn't get the hard edges taken off.

The edges are under the finish, so unless they've been refinished, it is original. I don't think they've been refinished, the whole gun looks barely used, and the box, etc are all intact.

I guess I'm just curious if this seen occasionally on similar year guns? Thanks for the help.

Regards,
Mark

Howdy- I'm not sure what your talking about. Those look good to me! I just put one exactly like that in lay-away, except mine has the standard target grips. I've owned a boat load of Smith's, but I've yet to get a set of those diamond grips on one. That's a real beauty!

I went back and took a closer look. It looks to me like someone may have held the gun in some type of vice, causing the slight line and the flat appearence just in front of it.

Yes, that's the hard edge, but it isn't from clamping. It's definitely left from machining the wood. You can't see it in the photos, but on the upper area of the grips, around the cutout, there is a hard edge. I'm used to seeing them smoothed out. The finish is nice and intact. As I mentioned in the original post, it just looks as though the machined edges were not completely sanded smooth, left more sharp, and then the finish applied.

It may be a common thing on these earlier grips, I haven't seen enough of them to know, so I thought I'd see what the more experienced people than I think. Thanks for your input.

Here is a later version (no diamonds). I guess I don't notice details as good as some of you guys....Model 25-2....6 inch

Onetonson56, thanks for the offer. I'm completely happy with the grips and revolver, just curious about details of the grips. Besides, if I was to sell them, I'd have to get at least $30.00 for them. (I don't know how to do the smiley thing).

Thanks,
Mark

Looks like the checkering at the top is a little off too. Screw appears not to be well centered in the diamond.

Maybe they were Monday morning grips.
