My target hand ejector

Unless you're in a life and death situation, with no other option, there's really no good reason to fire +P ammo in that gun. Personally, I don't even shoot any jacketed ammo in my mid-30s vintage .38 Target.

My opinion pretty much mirrors yours

Don't worry gents. Even though the old gals are so nice mechanically they beg to be shot, they will never see a single hot load of 38 special. I bought a new Colt Python today. It can gobble those rounds all day long. If I want to shoot the old gals it will be nothing but low pressure standard velocity wadcutters. The cylinder movement in the fired position of both those 100+ year old hand ejectors is within a thousandth of an inch as tight as that new Python. I paid $350 for a new one in 1982 and today I paid $1299 for a new one. Realizing the target model is original means a lot to me. I'll take care of them until I am no longer capable of doing so. In the future I'll keep an eye on the subtle signs of originality. It's great to be able to share the vast amount of knowledge here. My memory is not what it was a while back but this one will last a long time.
Thanks again to every one of you great people.
And thanks for you service to every one who ever got the chance to be some lost souls angel.
PS don't hate on me to much for the Colt.;)

Serial # 474995 It has target sights, trigger and grooved frame in front and back of the grips. a fairly decent job where the grips leave it exposed. I know it has been refinished but it seems to be a fairly decent job. No marks obliterated everything is legible but the typical roll mark ridges are smoothed out. Bore and action parts are as new. I have not shot it yet.
My guess is it would be possible that this was done by S&W at some time after it was made, or it started out as a target model and was refinished some time after that. Grips are not numbered so they may have been added later in life. I think my out the door cost was around $400. Originally built in 1922-3 by my research.

Whats the serial number?

Best,
RM Vivas
