I have a 629 and thinking about buying a set of Hogue grips for it. My brother just put them on his model 69 and they make a huge difference. My question is, all the venders want to know if if is a round butt or square butt. Need some help please.

A picture would be worth a thousand words, but no problem.
First pic shows an example of a square butt, second pic shows a round butt.
Note the width (length?...whatever) of the base of the SB vs. the RB.
