Gritty feel

I bought an M&P 9c and I love it except for one small thing....the gritty trigger feel. I've been looking at Apex but I'm not sure what is it that I need to purchase to get rid of the gritty feel. I'm happy with the trigger pull and the reset, not the feel though. If you have part numbers that would be great!!

The factory striker block is what causes the grit. Replace it with an Apex USB. You can buy that part alone or as part of the whole carry kit.

Installation requires removal of the rear sight. I suggest finding someone with a sight pusher tool...

You could also just polish the stock striker block and the part of the trigger arm that pushes against it. Worked for me, grittiness is gone now. The Apex parts are quite nice though.

Striker block and/or the sear. Just did the Apex DCAEK kit (which includes both parts) on my 9L and 9C, problem solved. You won't be sorry going that route!

How many rounds have you put through it? My M&P 40's trigger was a bit gritty out of the box. After a couple boxes of ammo it smoothed right out.

I agree with a USB replacement or polishing that parts. The gritty feel was not just a bit, but very noticeable in my 9c. Decided to get the Apex USB so I could go back to stock if I needed to send it in for service as I have read here that polishing parts could end up voiding your warranty. That might be internet speculation, but I figured why chance it. That part took care of the gritty feel on mine.

My 40c did not seem to need one as much so it is still stock. Must be the luck of the draw on if you get one with significant rough spots on the USB.

So far, all but one person has told you to remove the rear sight. NOT an easy thing to do by yourself and there may be easier options to try first.

I just worked the trigger a lot (without even racking and resetting the trigger) while watching television. This motion alone helped a lot.

When your gun is field stripped for cleaning, look at the trigger bar. If you see any machine marks on that bar, smooth them with 320 or 400 grit wet or dry sandpaper.

Google, M&P Trigger work Burwell guns. It is a PDF and I cannot link it for some reason.

Between these two actions I had no need to do anything else. When I did finally have my sights replaced, there was no need to do any polishing in the USB channel.

Yes. You can also polish up the old one (top and sides) and remove about 2 coils off the factory spring as well.

The Apex USB is far better though.

I don't recommend cutting coils off springs - ever. Besides, if you have to remove the rear sight to get to the spring to chop it up, why not just replace the whole thing while it's accessible?

By the way the Apex USB comes with it's own "reduced power" spring.

I also don't understand how one can even get in there to polish the factory striker block with it still in the slide...

I don't recommend cutting coils off springs - ever. Besides, if you have to remove the rear sight to get to the spring to chop it up, why not just replace the whole thing while it's accessible?

That is where the "gritty" feel primarily comes from with the M&P. While I am typically against cutting down springs, we are only taking 2 coils off and this still leaves the spring stiffer than the Apex one!

Yes, if you are going to remove the rear sight to polish up the factory SB, you might as well put in the Apex USB. A lot of people don't want to spend the $34 dollars so I am giving them an alternative.

Some times manufacturing "crud" gets left inside and getting all the grit and residue out and some good lubricant in there will make a different....Wont cost anything to try.

I agree and put some rounds down range. I put only 100 through mine and made a huge difference

I gave it a good cleaning and put probably two hundreds down range last weekend. I think I'm going to go with the USB. Thanks for the help!
