You want to make the radius on the end of the center pin wrap around the sides more. The part doing the damage is the edge where the radius on the end meets the straight sides.

That is exactly what I'd do - however it is impossible to totally eliminate marking so the best you can do is to minimize it as much as possible as stated by PD above.
