Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! 15-22 lost!

Well it was gone this morning when I arrived, so the search continues. :(

On the plus side, they were just putting their ammo delivery out when I arrived. So I was able to pick up 450 rounds of 9mm, guess it was a mixed blessing.

I've never had a BGC take longer than 45 minutes. That was at Cabelas just after Sandy Hook. It was a circus that day for sure.

My boy will be gone for 6 weeks this summer, I think I'll just sell the Ruger after he leaves, add that to the money I have on hand, and pick up 15-22 for him while he is gone.

Should be able to pick up some extra mags, AFG, and a few other items. I'll surprise him when he returns! :D

I was at my local GS today and they 2 on the shelf.
Was surprised to see them, since this place is pretty small. he had a black and a green camo model, both were priced just over $450, which I didnt think was too bad.
He tells me, at the gun shows round here, they are asking $500-600 and availability is good.
Dont know what the local WM is selling for, but this is whats available here in NC.
Hope this helps, but I doubt it.

Wow, that is horrible service! I got mine from a LGS, I put it on layaway just for a few days cause I recently moved and had to update my ID. I made sure they took it off the rack and smacked my name on it before I went out the door. But that there is preposterous, its like that stupid display only theory. Why put it on display if you have none? I would of asked for the store GM's number or him, or taken my business elsewhere and put a black list online for that store as in fire arms.

I don't usually buy firearms from Wally World, but like I said, I have been looking for a 15-22 for my son for a while.

This particular WM has been pretty reliable when it comes to ammo, so I didn't want to cause a scene there and mess up a reliable local source of ammo.

I was just bummed that I wasn't able to get my boy that rifle. When I saw it sitting there in the case, I was super excited! When it didn't happen, I was really bummed.

It will all work out in the end! :)

where do you live. My Academy sports here in nc has at least 5 in each store. There are 2 Academy stores within 20 miles of eachother.

On the topic of the firearm being held, let's not forget that a lot of us get delayed when going through NICS.
Due to having a security clearance while in the Army, I get delayed every time. /QUOTE]
Now that's the first time I ever heard that having a security clearance in the service caused a delay at NICS! I had a Top Secret Crypto clearance back during Vietnam and have never had that come up in a background check. I think some places just have more internal duck-lines to straighten-up than others. When I bought a Henry Golden Boy last October at Cabelas it took all of two-hours to process my papers and I have a State CCFL that supposedly makes things easier. When I bought my 15-22 at the same store in June (before the CCFL) it only took 20-minutes. Go figure...

I've heard it happen in quite a few places that TS or higher clearance returns a delay on the NICS because it isn't specific about why there is an issue with your name, just that there is an issue. It takes a while to sort it out normally.

Some of you get approved no problem and some of us have to wait. It doesn't mean the store is out to get you or hold the firearm for a friend.

I get delayed *every* time. After a particularly long one, I finally decided to a google search. Turns out there is a very naughty girl with my exact name (first, middle, last) and about the same age, who has done some serious crime in the LA area.

The background check delays for me have ranged from 20 minutes to an entire day. So, I have sympathy for those who can't walk away with a firearm, through no fault of their own.

Recent Northern NJ delay: Did paperwork for M&P 15-22 on April the 13th. Got the call with approval on 29 April. Picked it up on the 30th. There you go. The wait was in the past usually less than 5 minutes, standing around BS'ing with the guys in the shop.

Dezfan, I live in KC too. Up in Liberty Great Guns had a camouflage 15-22 earlier this wk. You might want to call them and ask about it. Good luck.

I could be wrong but I doubt a security clearance has anything to do with any delay. NICS is linked to NCIC, III, and other databases maintained by the FBI - if one is down, the NICS check is delayed. Common names also cause delays. Depending on your state of residence, there could be other speed bumps. For example, I live in Virginia and all checks go through the VA State Police which includes NICS. There are allot of difference reasons why a check could be delayed but I doubt having a govt clearance would be one of them. I've maintained a high level govt clearance prior to the inception of the required NICS check and have never had a check take longer than 10 minutes. It normally takes longer to fill out all the paperwork than it does for the actual background check.

In any case, it was purchased by somebody else and is simply waiting on their NICS check to come back. You sound like a little kid at somebody else's birthday party complaining that they didn't a gift.

LIFE AT "THE WAL-MART"

somebody else got there first, sux but move on. it might be a blessing. paying full boat + tax + background? you might do much better used or new in a private ftf sale. not that you don't run into some winners their at times also.

I have no issue with the person buyin the rifle.

My issue was with WM leaving the rifle in the display with the price tag still attached. If it was sold pending BGC approval, WM should have removed it from the display and placed it in the secured storage locker in the back of the store.

If the gun wouldn't have been on display still when I arrived, I wouldn't have waisted my time finding an associate, starting the BGC, and then find out it was a waist of time.

Another forum I'm on was discussing it, and they all mentioned waits they experienced and their security levels, and the guys with TS and higher all experienced delays, the guys without didn't.

There may be other reasons, but those were the common links behind guys with delays.
