Out for another purchase. Centerfire ammo is too expensive. Own a Henry lever action, and a Browning Buckmark. Thought about a Ruger 10/22, but the cool factor just isn't there. Heard about the 15-22, then someone showed me the GSG-5. Does anyone own both. The GSG is no longer being sold, but I can stil get one. Any thoughts? thanx ahead of time, JIM

Just a thought, I traded my GSG5 for a Ruger SR22 becauase they lost the lawsuit and quit making them. When I expressed my concern to my dealer about warranty and parts I was told the same company making the colt ar22 will be making a GSG5 and they will be the same but in the same breath he told me HK is making them change some of the spec's from the origional GSG. That was enough to discourage me from keeping it. I don't want a "new" rifle that the company who produced it was required to destroy all of it's remaining stock and parts in January.

I have a friend who owns the gsg-5 and I honestly am not a big fan of it. It just feels like a toy to me. I'm also far more fond of the AR15 style rifles, and the ease of cleaning a 15-22. My friend told me the gsg-5 is a pain to disassemble, though I've never tried to do so myself.

If you get the 15-22 you won't be let down. Unfortunately, you'll probably get plenty obsessed with it :-p.

I've got a gsg-5sd and the m&p.. I like the gsg but its a pain in the ass to clean.. but its identical to the mp5sd we have.. so ill keep it for practice.. between the 2 m&p is a lot easier to own..

i dont own a 15-22 but i have a gsg. i LOVE it. i have shot about 1k rounds through it. as long as its not remington thunderbolt you can rapid fire a whole clip through it with 0 problems.
its really not that hard to take apart either... not as easy as my m&p 15, but its not bad at all...

I have a GSG-5, M&P 15-22, and a Ruger 10/22 and like all three. Would tend to favor the M&P 15-22 though.

I own both and IMHO the S&W is much preferable. My GSG-5 is a real problem child dispaying a different kind of problem with each outing and every now and again running just fine. My S&W after a good feed ramp polishing has been flawless. As usual I keep remington ammo far away from either.

I hear a lot of people saying that they polish their feed ramps but I don't get the point? with mine after a few mags the ramp is so dirty what is a polish job going to help?

If its polished properly the dirt won't stick as easy

OP, the problem is, this is a S&W board. You are going to get mainly pro-S&W replies here. Post the same thing on one of the GSG boards, and you will get just the opposite. In reality, they are both about equal. I have heard good and bad feedback about both. My preference is the GSG-5, mainly for the purely subjective reason that I do not like the funky looking S&W magazine. The S&W has picked up points though with the newly released flash suppressor equipped version.

Now, I don't have a GSG5, but a friend does and he also says that it is a pain in the rump to clean.

I work in a shop and have all three in stock. The 10-22 is the LEAST ammo sensitive of the group. The GSG is available again- some settlement was made. Try CCI Mini-Mag 40 gr copper plated solids- high speed .22's feed/function the best.

hey if you have a tacticandle its compressed hot air
