Yesterday the city sponsored a gun buy back, it was advertised well in advance. $500.00 for "any firearm in working condition", 11 Am till 2 Pm.
Hundreds of people showed up, the line stretched around the block. At 11:23 Am they ran out of money and shut it down, as one guy put it people were bringing in $25-30 dollar guns and getting money to go buy a better, bigger one.
The city declared it a success and say they plan to have more.
$500.00 for any working gun hand or long gun, I have a few I'd turn in!
Fools!!!!
you can Google "New Orleans gun buy back 2019" for video clips.

Sounds like they pissed off a lot of people by ending it early and turning away the rest of the crowd that was there. Didn't help any that they were waiting in the rain for a very long time.

I'd really like to know how many and just what the guns they got were. I'm guessing that none were worth much at all.

The City of Columbus, Ohio and a couple of inner city churches had a buy back around 15-18 years ago. Going rate was $50 per gun. Two guys I knew (one was FFL) walked up and down the line buying anything worth wile for $75. I've heard of this in other towns also.

So the $500 per would stop all those evil collectable Smiths & Colts from escaping the scrap yard! At least for 23 minutes! That seems a little short sighted to me and more like Propaganda than real concern!

Yeah, but somebody feels better! ;)

I love gun buy-backs...they stop all those "bad guys" so well. St. Louis had one a decade ago. I scrapped a bunch of junk for money to buy a few new guns. Just your typical "feel good" waste of money.

I would show up with a collection of water guns and just say Hey, these ARE guns so give me my $500 per. LOL

I'd take $500 for my old rusty starter pistol, and no questions asked except when are they going to do this again. ;)

I attended one of the San Antonio city council meetings a few months back. In another context, one of the city council members (a mental giant, as most of them are) asked the police chief about having a gun buy-back program. His response was that it would be a total waste of resources. No more discussion followed.

I always thought that if there were one here, I would be one of the line-walkers buying up anything good for a little more than the bounty being offered.

Or were stolen. Remember that most of these gun buy-backs are "no questions asked".

Here in Cleveland,Ohio they have gun buy backs and offer gift cards for working guns, People walk up and down the line buying every gun they can get for more than the gift cards.

I'd spend a few days in my shop working with scrap wood and 1/4" pipe that could sorta chamber a .22 round. Rubber band mainspring and nail for a firing pin.
I'd try to be first in line!

$500? I would sell them my Shield 9mm, take the $500, and buy two more from PSA. Or maybe just one and $250 worth of ammo.

During Hurricane Katrina, they were simply confiscated. At least they are paying cash money this time.....

I have a rusty..

....double barrel shot gun with a swelled barrel that is in working condition, IF you are silly enough to pull the trigger both barrel with go off. I can really use the 500. I'll add a hundred and get something I really want.

These things are always ludicrous, but $500? That's completely insane, and New Orleans likely has about as many guns per capita as any town in the country anyway. Probably at least half in the hands of folks who don't use them for the good of the city.

$500? No wonder they had to shut it down early.
