I work security OK? I am unarmed supposedly. There are more security officers killed than LEOs' each year because of this. Why are we unarmed? MONEY! These folks would rather take a chance on one of us getting wasted than paying the additional insurance fees for having an armed guard on the site. We are told that if a situation comes in to play call the law or 911. Good Luck with that one baby. This is how nuts our society has become. Every day at work I risk losing my gun permit ( Which I don'tthink I should be required to have anyway) Or going to jail or whatever for doing what I need to do. I always pack a weapon regardless. I have friends and folks where I work that their very lives could depend on me at any given moment. Should this situation arise you can kiss my gun permit goodbye and my weapon of choice as well most likely but that's my choosing. I moved from Texas to Tennessee 20 some odd yrs ago and the idea that I have to pay anybody for the right to bear arms really galls me no end. I reluctantly got a permit several years ago here in Tn simply because if the law stops you for anything in this state they can confiscate your weapon and you can kiss it good bye friend. In Texas if you are stopped, and your weapon taken you can claim it back if it is a miner offense or you are innocent..

Popper, I did the same as you for 35 years. One thing I am sure you know but didnt put in your post is if the incident is bad enough you also not only lose your carry gun and permit but every gun you have. All this comes down to the old saying, would you rather be judged by 12 of carried by six? I would rather be judged by 12 too.

Running a security company must be a competitive business. A guy just down the street went belly up lately. Far as I know he might have been the only company in town. It`s all about insurance requirements. Except for rare exceptions private companys pay close to minimum. Huge defense plants etc have what we call "in house security" that pay on par with their workers. While my company did have a few posts that didnt require being armed for the most part all my guard work required the gun card.
I suppose with small companys it`s open to conjecture how well they will back you. I never had that problem and cant recall hearing that any of my fellow guards really got caught in the middle although it always was a subject that they liked to question.
A big saying always heard was "Guard house lawyers". We have it here too. I was fortunate. I never was laid off in the 35 years. Many guards knew new hire guards from having worked with them elsewhere. For some it was like picking grapes. They mostly traveled around from other aircraft plants and the movie studios.

Well, I have to partially disagree with this idea or at least modify it to: a good guy who knows how and when to use a gun. We all know someone who should never be allowed to drive and we all know someone who should never be allowed to look at a gun let alone touch one or carry one. An ex brother-in-law was a case in point. We went shooting with him at a private range. We called a cold range, opened our actions and put our guns down. It was my turn to change targets and I heard my other brother-in-law screaming and swearing. I turned around to see B-I-L #1 aiming his rifle down range. I will not tell you what I said!

This article states why I have a CWP. I'm not a warrior, but there are times when people of conscience must make a stand.
So, I now carry, practice frequently, and am actively seeking more advanced training. [The more training the better].
