Gun costume for Hallloween

We had some kid about 12yrs old show up decked out in a hunters costume and some kind of long gun. Not store bought. I live in MA so this seemed like a stick in the eye to the people. I liked it. Can't remember any other costumes that came by here. Made me smile.

Remember the "Good Old Days" back in the '40s-60s where if you brought a toy gun to school the theacher may have taken it away until the end of the day, and then gave it back to you? All you were told is "You shouldn't bring toys to school!" Didn't give a rat's *** whether it was a gun, truck or whatever! But if it was part of a Halloween costume everything was jake.

Yea, those were the days, when "educators" had common sense and were allowed to exercise it.

In 1967 or 68, I was in high school and in the "College Prep" classes. I directed a mini-production of Stalag 17. We brought in what we had. One Jewish buddy's dad was a WWII vet. He brought in a Nazi-marked High Power and holster. I brought in the afore-mentioned Springfield stock and broom handle and someone else brought in a 98(k). Nothing was said by our teachers.

I remember being able to (unescorted) to bring in one of my Dads WWII weapons for Show-and-tell, and never had to be escorted nor anything the entire day. I kept my Dads Carbine with me through all my classes and only leaned it against the wall behind the teachers desk--or if I sat at a desk against the wall, it stayed with me. Nobody batted an eyelash about it. This of course-was almost 40 years ago.

I told this before but humor me. About 1947 or 1948 I went to a one room school, 1st through 8th grades. Supposedly the old man teacher we had at that time was the oldest teacher in wisconsin. His dad had been in the civil war! He brought in his dads civil war musket, took us kids out behind the school and shot it! He also had a couple older kids probley from high school come and demonstrate gun safety. I have this picture of him and our class. Found it on the net. I am in the picture but whoever turned it in has my picture misnamed. (david f, not mine.) My sister is "wendie".
It was a different day. The brundage boys in the back row drove about a 1928 chev coupe to school!

Until 15 - 20 years ago almost everyone had common sense and was EXPECTED to use it. SADLY times have changed.
