Gun mount for home

So I have a s&w m&p 40 full size and I was looking for a mount to mount it on a wall or somewhere with easy quick access. Anybody have any suggestion? Where do you keep your gun for home defense?

There's one in a bedside table drawer, one in an end table drawer in the living room, one by the front door, another in the gun room........................

Note that we no longer have kids and the grandchildren are seldom around. When they are, all the guns go behind locked doors and one goes in my pocket. I know several people that belt one on when getting dressed in the morning. Only you can decide what is best in your particular situation.

I have one of those table clocks that doubles as a hiding place for a handgun, out in plane sight but nobody pays any attention to it or realizes what is inside of it. In another room I keep a handgun inside a hollow book titled, Readers Digest Condensed Books, right next to the Holy Bible.

I only have one gun that I leave out. I have a kydex retention holster screwed to the side of my night stand. The night stand is in between me and my bedroom door. We don't have kids so I'm not worried.

As far as waking hours go, I always have something on me or very close by. Generally if my wife and I are just hanging out at home I'll have a gun of some sort in the coffee table drawer. Very often I also drop my BG .380 in my pocket too.

I like my retention holster mount in the bedroom. I've toyed with the idea of mounting one underneath the coffee table or some other such location.

The gun sits in a Kydex shell.

Easy access. Expensive though.

Tons of ideas come to mind.

Every morning, I hide my pistols in an unlikely place (i'm saving for a good safe).

This would allow me more out of the way options.

Now I've heard keeping your gun on magnet could magnetize your gun, is that true? Can a magnet damage your gun in anyway?

Well you can always magnetize any steel or iron object by percussion or aligning it north to south and striking it or leaving it attached to another magnet also aligned north to south, but even if you magnetize your weapon I could not see any harm in that, it would be a light magnetic force at best and would not affect the normal operation of the gun!

Heard of some LEO who Velcro a 26 to their tactical vests..should work for small table or other flat surface.

Adults only in our home so just leave several accessible..when children including the Grands are here, concealed IWB.

Quick access safe boxes are your best bet, especially if you don't live alone.

I have never trusted those locking safe boxes for quick trouble free access when under stress. I do realize they are fairly reliable for the most part, but very concerned I would either fumble the combination or that there might be a mechanical malfunction when most needed. Under stress I personally like to just have quick fool proof access to my defense weapon. Since my kids are now adults and are quite familiar with the fact there are loaded guns in our home, I don't have that to worry about anymore. If I had young children as I know you do, that might be a different story - although I personally chose to hide my weapon from the kids back then. When I am not at home my defense weapon is with me so I have no concern about having a loaded gun in an empty house. My others are all locked up.

Where do I put my gun?

Put your gun where you can get to it quickly, combos in a locked box are nice but stress where someone has a knife to your wife's throat may cause you to forget those numbers.
If you don't have in on you put it where you can get it if you answer the door, someone breaks in while watching TV. You are a sleep and a burglar breaks in its dark are you going to turn the lights on to see the combination to get your gun, put it in a nightstand drawer, under the mattress edge on your side of the bed, in just far enough to not fall on the floor.
Train everyone in the house firearm safety and treat every gun as being loaded.
I heard of a judge that had loaded guns on just about every table in the house plus cameras and a 10 foot high fence around his home. He put a lot of bad guys away!

I have recently become more concerned about any weapons left unattended (and unlocked) when I leave the house empty. My mod 870 with a tube full, chamber empty, is always under my bed. A model 19 is loaded and in a locked gun vault beside the night stand. There are no kids around any more. I finally bought a Liberty gun safe this week to lock everything in when I leave home. It will be located next to my night stand and unlocked only when I'm home, with both guns loaded and at ready. My newer concern has become one of somehow being held liable for a stolen weapon (from a break-in) being used in a crime. With the idiotic gun laws being proposed in today's environment who knows what will evolve. Although, I do think that exposure in AZ is minimal. Anyway, I'm more comfortable with this approach.
