So I was purchasing a gun tonight sight unseen since it was a pretty good deal. We meet at the FFL and it was missing the stock stocks and had ill fitting Pachmayrs on it. The stocks that came on this particular S&W revolver are quite unique and hard to miss. The second clue some tomfoolery was taking place was the hogue grip strap was in the box, but there were no hogue stocks to be found.

I go ahead with the buy anyway since it was a good deal and as the FFL is filing out the paperwork I take a look around the shop. The shop is pretty new so they don't have a lot of stock. What do I see on another counter? The proper wood stocks with a $40 price tag on them. I pay the stupid tax and buy the stocks that should have been sold with the gun. Now my interest is piqued, why are there brand new Pachmayr stocks on the gun, a Hogue strap in the firearm box and I found the original wood stocks?

What do I see on the back wall? A Pachmayr K/L frame stock box on the wall with a Hogue grip in it!!! I lost it... So I grab the box, remove the hogue stock from the blister pack and then proceed to open the revolver box and show the shopowner that I had the mounting strap for his hogue stock that was in a Pachmayr box! Furthermore, the hogue stock was branded S&W!!!!

So I am like, here is the deal, you pulled this switcharoo obviously before I got here. I don't care about paying you the $40 for the wood stocks, just trade me the hogue stock for the K/L frame Pachmayrs and I will be on my way.

What scumbags, thanks for letting me vent!

It is a shame when that stuff happens.

However, I have to ask why two private parties were meeting at an FFL's place of business to do a transaction?

I know MA does not forbid FTF sales, even though the transaction must be reported to the FRB through the states webpage.

I am quite impressed with your knowledge of inane Massachusetts gun laws, bravo to you!

You are only allowed to do 4 personal transfers per calendar year the 5th one has to go through an FFL. People also "hoard" their personal transfers since this is the only way to transfer extra killy "off-list" guns. For example, a dealer is only allowed to ship my Colt Pythons out of state, he cannot legally transfer it to another individual in my state.

I can transfer any firearm to any individual as long as it does not violate our assault weapons ban, similar to the federal one that has since elapsed federally.

Make sense?

It gets even more fun, the published executive office of public safety list states that Glocks are fine to sell in the state, but the Attorney General maintains a "secret" list that states they are illegal to transfer since they are dangerous since they do not have a loaded chamber indicator.

We have a great local non-profit organization in the state that is in the process of challenging the silly rulings on Glocks and other precedent setting cases. Please donate if you have the chance!

We had a dealer like that in my old home town. Everyone called him "Slippery". I don't even know what his real name was. He worked hard and actually did quit well, but everyone knew he was, you know.... slippery.

There is a special place in HELL for people that steal factory stocks or spare mags then sell them seperately...

BTW...perhaps its time to move out of Taxachusettes to a less oppressive state in the Union....Florida is very gun friendly.

I'm from Arkansas now living in Tennessee. Both of which are good states to live in if you like your gun rights. Im sorry for your liberty loss. As for the slippery gun dealers, if I get any sense of dislike or mistrust about a gun deal whatsoever, I don't do business with that person or business. But that's just me. Happy shooting and God bless.

Did you confront the seller about it?? It seems like he/she would have been the person who sold the stocks to the dealer. As a precaution Iif I sell something to someone, I list # mags, grips if pertinent, that goes on a receipt, sealed, signed by me, then taped. One goes to the dealer one to the buyer. Be Safe,

You can't sell Pythons within the state???????? Is this some sort of bias because they originated in Connecticut??

How can the birthplace of the American Revolution have such messed up "gun laws". Our founding fathers would be ashamed and disgusted.

Forget the seller or that FFL I'd be ranting and raving about Massachusetts. Or moving.

I'm confused, here.
If the two of you met at an FFl, why is everybody bashing the store owner and how did the grips end up for sale seperately, unless the owner was there earlier and sold them at that time?
Do you mean you bought the gun from the shop?

Don't ask, us Texans will never understand other states' laws on the sale of guns privately......we have it made down here but let's not tell anybody :)

Reminds me of the BRISK business some folks would do on GB or in small shops with old Colt autos or off beat LLAMA pieces. It was a very common practice to see the piece with no magazine or an aftermarket model, rather than the colt 2 tone or the original LLAMA
But if you searched around about 75% of the time the seller was also selling the original Magazine on another auction
