Gun safe advice?

Take the cover off the front of the lock and see if there is a model number. If not take the cover off the inside of the door and see if there's one there on the lock itself. Send me a PM with the model number.

I find it highly improbable that your cannot be replaced.

Dealing on a new Liberty safe now. PM sent though

What is involved in swapping a mechanical dial in place of an S&G electronic? I have a 25 year old Fort Knox with the electronic keypad. So far, I've never had any issues as long as I keep fresh batteries in it, but I just know at some point that solenoid is going to wear out and leave me locked out.

In most cases a digital lock can be replaced with a mechanical lock. But I couldn't tell you for sure unless I saw it.

If you and a buddy can lift the door off and take it to a reputable locksmith, they should be able to help you. This is assuming the door comes off easily. If not, you with have to pay them to come out.

Replacing a safe lock is not something you can do by watching YouTube.

I too like Liberty but the room to get the model I wanted down my stairs steered me to a Superior safe and I have been very pleased.

I was at the Tulsa show several years ago looking at safes and talked to a sales guy who had been selling them for a long time. He went through the complete list of good, better, best mechanical locks. He was not a fan of the electronic ones overall. He said there are two kinds of electronic locks, those that are looking to fail and those who have failed - he said it is a matter of time. I can't vouch for that as I only wanted mechanical.

I paid $1K for my 24 gun Liberty Timber Ridge at Gander Mtn. It was a special order sale so it came wired and had a nice door panel with lots of pouches and holsters. Weighs about 700 pounds, Fire rated for 45 minutes, and a BG analog dial combo. Cost $200 to have it delivered, which I was happy to pay...they walked it down into my basement,

It's not nearly as nice as the higher levels of Liberty Safes, but it was the most Safe I could afford. My old Safe was just a stackon lockable cabinet, which is now my Ammo Storage locker. The Liberty is a big step up from that.

It's true that you should buy more space in your Safe than you think you need...Just as it's true that the more space you have the greater the urge to fill it. I filled my 24 gun Safe and decided I needed to stop buying guns or I'd need a new Safe. If I had been able to buy a 48 gun Safe, I would have spent twice as much before I slammed on the brakes.

Back last May I started a thread to show my new safe that I had just acquired. Les.B requested that I display a picture in a year to show it all filled up. Guess what? It didn't take a year.
