after much looking i settled on a johnson safe made here in central indiana. didnt realize how hard of a decision this would be and i want to thank the person here on the forum who recomended jeff johnson , who is the owner and safe builder.
after visiting his shop ( he will welcome anyone into his shop to look and talk to who might have interest in purchasing a safe ) and talking with him about the construction and building of the safe , it pretty well sold me . you wont find a fancy showroom with a bunch of finished and pretty painted safes , but a guy who is a craftsman building quality products out of american materials .... yes , read that local made in indiana steel !
i had my floor reenforced for the safe just to be sure . it weighs right at 1000 lbs.

i settled on model br540 , which is 40" x60"x26" , in 7 gauge , with 3/8" door . it has a 2300 degree fire rating for 1 hour . all in all very impressive #'s for the delivered , in house ! , price of $2474

i should have it by mid- april or a little before. he custom builds the safes when the order is placed . you can even pick out the color and can have some pin striping or leave plain .
i offered to pay some $ down but he refused , saying he only expected to be paid when the safe is delivered ! nice way to do business.

i would urge anyone else in central indiana to check out the quality construction of his products and do some serious comparing of like safes for the $ .

good deal

I'm glad you took my advise and give jeff a chance. I have had my safe for about 16yrs now, and I still stop and say hi to jeff when I see him at the gun shows.
A great guy with a great product.

yes , vic

thanks again .

i think for the $ spent , he has a very good safe . i really went beyond my budget a bit but wanted to have adequate room in the safe.
he does a good build for sure and like you said , is great to deal with !

I predict that you will have it filled in a year and have to go get another one! :D:D:D

Nothing wrong with that... I like having several smaller ones than one huge one anyway!
