Have a Liberty Revere 25 gun safe. Have had it for 3 years and no humidity problems as it is in a dry / cool room in the house. Live in mountains of Va. so no major humidity issues.

However a recent water leak in house made me think I ought to put some type of dehumidifier product in the safe for good measure. Don't think I need one of the "golden rod" types but thought perhaps one of those small ones that can be recharged by plugging into an outlet or the bags of desiccant packs.

Any recommendations?

Based on your bolded, as long if the water was not spraying on your safe and not getting in your probably good to go. What is the humidity level in your house and specifically near your safe ? If in a normal zone possibly nothing needs doing. Of course those small descants will not hurt.

I use the rod as humidity in the mountains of NYS in the warmer/rainy weather, can be interesting!

without actually taking the time to check i would guess that a rechargeable unit is going to be in the same price range as a golden rod so why not just go with a golden rod.
i have been using the same 30yr old golden rod in one of my safes and have never had an issue.
my newer safe has a similar variation of a golden rod, different manufacture and that one is about 5yrs old with zero issues.

I bought 3 of those Eva Dry plugin models. One crapped out within two months and the others take forever to "dry out" for reuse.
I'm back to using golden rods.

The things I use say Remington on them. They've got those little balls like in old anti-freeze testers. When they're blue they're working, when they're pink they're full or moisture. I then plug it in for 8 - 10 hours and it's refreshed and good as new.

Have 2 of them in my 30-gun Liberty safe for 4 or 5 years now. Never (yet) had a moisture problem.

They were about $25 each at the local gun store.

I've a product called Golden Rod in my rifle safe that plugs into a wall outlet and stays slightly warm, drying out most humidity. Since I use a document safe for some of my handguns I use a Remington Rem Dri. Also works in my ammo lockers.

I've got the golden rod my safe came with and go through 2 refill bags of Damp-Rid per year. I keep a hygrometer inside and it usually runs 78 to 80 degrees and 40 to 50 percent humidity. I'm in Southwest Florida and the safes inside my garage, so you probably don't need to be so aggressive with dehydration.

Thanks - The optimum humidity in a safe was going to be my next question. I ordered a hygrometer to put in it. Also store documents and other non firearm valuables in it.
