I purchased a large Canon safe back in Dec 2014. I have a few other small safes but nothing like the one I just bought. Because of where I ended up located the new safe, I know temperature and humidity would a issue I would need to address. The room the safe is in doesn't have any air vents, old house. So temperature and humidity are a bit higher then the rest of the house. I have golden rods and Desiccant Dehumidifiers in the other safes, as well as this safe.

Have always looked for what the desired temp/humidity levels should be, but opinion seem to vary.

My experiment with this safe but to put a small server I use to monitor my security cameras in the safe. Server has been in the safe with a small amount or rifles, handguns, ammo, knifes, magazines, and reloading powder since January.

My results. Inside the safe well humidity is low... 23% to 35%. Temperature is 75-100.

So now the question, what does everyone think of the humidity and temp range?

Humidity quite low, temp a bit high.

As you mention your room has no window I have the same situation and have a dehumidifier in my windowless basement, (the out flow is piped to a floor drain) I only have a small golden rod in my large Fort Knox! Been that way for ten years all is well.

I own a Cannon bought at Cabelas when they had a sale going on.

My GS sits in my living room and unless the air temp doesn't drop below 75* at night, I choose not to use my central air.

I wuz brung up on a farm in an old farmhouse 150 years old and my parents didn't install a large window AC until I moved out in 1970.

I use a large heat rechargable "moisture can' in my safe which indicates when it needs recharging about every 1-2 months.

Never have had any problems with excessive moisture in my safe, but I keep everything in there well oiled.

I'd say on hot, summer days, the temp inside my safe is right up there with yours.

I have a walk in concrete vault, 4' X 7', located in the basement. I keep a dehumidifier in the room, and monitor it with a thermometer/humidity instrument. It maintains a 45-50 % humidity with a 65 - 70 degree temp. I had read somewhere that about 50% and 70 degrees was ideal, so I try to keep it there. I do run a small heater in the winter, but it seldom runs.

My safe is in a small unfinished room in the basement. I have for 35 years use the heat rechargeable cans. I now have a dehumidifier in the room and try for zero humidity, but in reality the room gets down to 35-37% The dry bare surfaces on reloading equipment do not rust in this environment. When the power is off for a day or more, the humidity rises to 69-90% and reloading equipment begins rusting! So I have kept the cans in the safe as backup. I already have them, they don't need to eat, so I let them work! Ivan

Aloha,

I use golden Rods in our safes.

I'm less than a 1/4 mile from the ocean,

one safe is unlocked, but closed when I am home.

Humidity is always high here.

Guns are All bagged in Bore Stores brand silicone gun socks.

I have no problems/

I have it on good authority that cigars like 70-70. Guns don't care about the temps, but like lower humidity. Get it too low and the old fashioned guns with wood stocks will rebel and crack.

I've never really measured my gun safe. I just keep a couple of unfolded disposable baby diapers in it. They seem to be enough to keep the humidity down enough where I've never had a problem. I change them out once a year or so.
