Ran by the local Nashville show this afternoon to see if I missed anything yesterday. Saw a 617 laying on the table wearing a set of black Hogue rubber grips. Most people just kept walking by. I have a 617-1 6 shot 6" and know how nice the 'no lock' .22s are. I made one more pass by and made him an offer. He countered and the gun has anew home and a new mate. He had a pair of target stocks from 1982, but I had a better idea. I had a pair of Combat stocks that needed a new home. I brought her home and cleaned her up with some Flitz and voila:) She shines like she should. Looks like a nickel gun. The 617-1 I have is the round butt. This 617 is square. I think they make a nice pair. Now, I need to find a 617 4" without the lock.

I have a lot of fun with mine, especially with the scope. Has the IL but I've never had any trouble with them.

Oh yes - nice to save that one and get it up with some real grips. I find myself actually looking for the overlooked plain ones at the shows, as well.

Mine is a new(er) one, but I'll guarantee you if push came to shove it would be one of the last guns I'd part with. Nice catch!

Congratulations on the purchase as the early 617's are fantastic revolvers and they look the best in my opinion with the combats which rarely are on the revolver if you buy one at a gun show. The dealers at the gun shows are asking $150 to $200 just for a set of the combat grips.

Heres mine and I got the box and goodies also

the 4" is next on my list....hard little bugger to find

I waited a LONG time to find one and picked my 617 up this past month. 10 shot / no lock. I put Hogue wood grips on it, a dab of nail polish on the front sight. Lighter rebound spring and some minor polishing and its done.

It was worth the wait....

Those are some great looking revolvers. I have wanted a model 617 for a while now. I finally found one at a gun show here in Hickory and for some reason it just didn't "feel" right. I passed on it. I still want one. Maybe one day.

I like mine more every time I shoot it. One of the best purchases I have ever made.

Yep, I like both of your 617's alot! I have a 617-1 4"bbl, and a 17-6 6"bbl blue steel full lug model. Your newest revolver is the full target trigger & hammer model which I really like, my 17-6 has the same option. All round great 22 cal. revolvers, a real pleasure to own.

I normally shoot older SW's such as K-22's, 22/32's etc. but picked up a 4" 6 shot 617 to try and it has become one of my favorite shooters and always ends up in my bag for range trips. My gun has the wooden combat grips which I find quite comfortable and balances well with the 4" full lug barrel but I suspect I would find a 6" a bit muzzle heavy. The action and trigger are very smooth and to my liking. My only regret is being an early gun it is not drilled and tapped for a scope mount as I would love to try a red-dot on it.

the 4" prelock guns are hard to find...i dont really know what they are WORTH, but i know it would have to be real high for me to pass it up.
