I just bought a 629-2, 6inch barrel, no box, excellent condition and less than 250 rounds through it.

I paid $500 for it, how do the experts think I made out ? :)

Welcome to the forums. I'm no expert, but judging by what S&W wants for a new one, I'd say you did just fine.

Now post some pics of it so we can all drool... :)

I've been watching them on GunBroker and at $500 for a nice one, especially if it has its original target stocks, I'd say you did very well.

I was also watching 4" six-shot Model 617s and bought a nice no-dash one so the 629 will have to wait a while...

ed, i had been watching that for several days and thought about buying it....i need a 4" no-dash to round out my collection but dont seem to want the 4" too badly, i like the 6" and 8 3/8" better....

Sounds like you did well. $500 is a good price for a 629 in good shape.

After seeing several sell for +/-$700 and an unfired one sell for a grand, I decided to bite the bullet. Today, $639 isn't hateful for one of those (said the guy who paid $244.95 for his no-dash 6" with target hammer and trigger brand new...).

no its not bad....there was a point when i was buying nearly every no-dash 617 i could find for $650 or less....after 3 long-tubes and a few 6"ers and a couple 617-1's....i'm tapped out on 617's

I have a 629-2 with the 8 3/8" barrel. It is one fine revolver. I bought mine with less than 10 rounds through it but I got a "brother's price" on it which was $450. I was offered $600 for it within a month of buying it. But I still have it and plan on keeping it a long time. I think you'll be very happy with that gun. Just don't put any full bore loads in it. They aren't made to take the loads the Rugers will take but IMO they are more refined than the Rugers. I could have easily swapped mine out for a Ruger but I haven't done that either. I've put several hundred rounds through mine now and it hasn't hurt it one bit. Everything is still tight, the gaps are the right size, etc.. And it's accurate to about 150 yards.

Turbo38gn.. yes sir, my baby is an 87 GN, 62,500 original miles, bone stock garage queen. Second owner, weekend cruiser.

C J ... thanks for telling me about your 629, I'll post when I get to shoot mine. :D

That's awsome..... I kinda like the GN's too. I own a few, but mine are a little bit modified. My 86 TType runs 8.30@168mph in the quarter mile, and it is still a 6cyl with a little bit bigger turbo..:D Kind of a weekend cruiser too, 1\4 at a time.

$500.00 for an excellent one? You did good, you will never lose on that one! I would have bought it quickly at that price and felt good about it....
