Gun show morons

Haven't been to a gun show in several years. Not because I haven't wanted to go, circumstances and conflicts have just prevented it. If I'm going to Houston, there is a gun show the Austin area. If I'm in Houston and there is a show, I can't go because I'm down there on something that takes all my time or I need to leave to get back home. Call it poor planning. I don't deal well with morons and people who have no manors. Low voltage cattle prods should not be reserved for use at gun shows, but available at grocery stores, malls, sporting events, or anywhere idiots congregate. In fact I am now looking for that sound to put on my cell phone. So, after having read this thread I'm pretty sure my inability to plan better is serving me very well. hardcase60

I can think of no better step toward eliminating our Second Admendent rights in this county than excluding our sons and daughters, until they are 18, from the American institution of the gun show, however tarnished they may be these days.

You make a fair point. It's well taken, but I didn't see the likes of your grandpa, your dad, you, or your son at the three shows I attended this year.

The little brats were strap hangers, clinging to Mom's purse, awaiting the next snack that was to be doled out for presumably good behavior (what a lie), and Mom was only there to count this event as a "family outing," you know, "quality time" (another lie).

One man's observation from a very limited field.

Gun Show Morons, to use the title but with a little different twist.

I have mentioned this local show a couple times over the last couple years. It went from a "Gun Show" to more of a knife, Nazi junk, sun glasses and other stuff show with a few guns just to keep the name accurate.. They did normally have a lot of ammo available, if you could afford it!

Well the morons up here put it out of business. We have a college up here that is basically anti gun and has been protesting the show for years. We also got a new female mayor and she is also very agreeable to the college kids and some other very vocal problem makers. FWIW this show has been here for 32 years.

Now this is NYS and we have enough rules to guarantee no illegal transactions occur (The Gun show loophole they are always wrongly screaming about)

Like said it has morphed into IMNSHO not a great show but it was still a show. Now its gone and if the rumor I heard it might show up at another location in another county about double the distance from where I live.

I have to admit, I do get a chuckle out of the expressions on most wive's and girlfriend's faces as their significant others drag them thru the aisles, hoping to elicit some of their, (read male), enthusiasm toward the subject. Most of these women look like they'd rather be having a root canal.

I think gun shows and auctions have been going downhill for
several years. The worst thing that happened was in 80s when
it became legal for FFL holders to set up at shows. When this
happened, larger crowds were coming through the doors. This
was seized upon by promoters, most who don't care what they
are putting on the show for, as long as they can get people in
the door. Gun shows are more like a trip to Wally World than
when they were attended by guys that were real gun people.
The auctions have been ruined by cell phone bidding, making
it easy for owners bidding up on their own item. I have been on
both sides of the table, so don't take this as slam on FFLs. Also
went to a monthly gun action for 25+ yrs. I was a regular as were many other dealers. We had permanent Number. There
was a majority of the public at this auction. I would say a normal
crowd would be 500. Anyway you got use to the auction numbers
and you didn't waste your time bidding on guns that were going
to be bid up, by cohorts in the crowd. Just seems to me that the
whole spirit of the Gun Show has been lost. The only good ones
left are the closed ones run by various collectors assoc. They
keep the riff-raff to a minimum.

Surprised no one has brought up the guys that carry broken down double barrel shotguns over their shoulders while holding the barrels in their hand, turning left and right and then left again. A person has to play dodgem with the butt stock,,,, 'come on guys this is not a trap field there is a crowd of people behind ya'.

Ya know, I read all of this and think to myself, yep, it's all true but I love our local once a year gun show enough that I tolerate it. Just remember, unless you yourself are perfect, it's wrong to expect perfection from others. We all forget our manners on occasion so just suck it up and deal with it.

(and YES, we all have to deal with stupid people and I include myself in that group because I do stupid stuff too...)

So what this thread tells me is that a lot of gun owners and would-be gun owners are boobs, total boobs and even, maybe morons.

Go to a public indoor range on a weekend and you will probably
find the same people as at a gun show.

That should be frightening to even the staunchest. no
compromise Second Amendment proponent.

Which leads me to the open carry issue.....how's that for thread drift?

I saw what you did there...nice.

One more. Dealers who bring guns that aren't for sale, as if to mockingly say "I've got one and you don't." Colt Pythons come to mind.

I have not been to a gun show in 9 or 10 years now. While I enjoyed going to them with my grandfather as a kid, the last time I went I just had no fun whatsoever. Not many deals to be found, but hey that's life. What really bothered was some of the saftey aspects. I know the promoters and LEOs that work the check in table do their best, but I have read about live fire incidients at shows lately. I also hate the fools that like to pick up the guns and point them around, painting everyone around with that muzzle. I do not like having firearms pointed at me, even if they are unloaded and locked with a zip tie.

Most things in here don't react to well to bullets.

In many cases, gun shows and the like are as much about "show and tell" as they are about actually selling something.

rburg and I have spent many hours sitting behind the same table, and it's always a treat for me to see what he carried in for "show and tell." It's rare that I have something good to show, but always like bring it when I do.

I can't speak for Dick, but I'd guess he'd probably sell that virtual unused boxed 32-20 target model(for example) for the right price. He doesn't want every one who walks by the table pawing on, though.

I appreciate the guys and gals who take a few pieces just to show off. Often the guns are ones I've never seen (except in photos). They usually aren't ones I'd ever buy so the fact they're not for sale is of no consequence.

I went to a show in Greenville, NC yesterday. What plucked my nerves was the overwhelming amount of NON gun/outdoors related stuff. I saw candles, and jewelry and even a booth for someone who cleans the gutters of your house.

I know the promoters need to sell tables. The larger shows in Raleigh are still pretty decent, but the ones in my area near the coast have been getting pretty lousy with each successive show.

If I want all that other stuff, I will go to a flea market. You know, that's what the shows here have become......flea markets with some guns.
