That's pronounced Mah-CON-Guh.;)

I haven't been to one since spring. I sold a rifle two weeks ago. Money burning a hole in my pocket. I want a Series 70 Colt 1911. I mean a gen-u-wine S-70, not a repro. Nostalgia. It is 2011, and I want one, just 'cause.

Failing that, I need a Winchester 92 clone in .45 Colt.

The Colt is what I'm after, though. The things just aren't worth what they're bringing, in my estimation anyhow. I guess I'll have to pay too much if I get one. Also, I understand Colt was having some bad QC issues in the 70s when these guns came out. Of course they say the same about Bangor Punta era S&Ws, and I own a good few of those with no problems so far.

I have a couple of Norinco 1911A1 clones, and they are good, solid, reliable shooters. They aren't Colts, though.

We'll see what happens.

Hey man, good luck finding that Colt! Wish I were going, but have family duties tomorrow and Sunday. All the best, and really, be careful, that area of Macon is not safe.

I would have went, but I just moved to Arizona. Have a great time in Macon (and go armed, it's overrun by thugs these days).

Two recent incidents to illustrate . . . .

About 10 days before last Christmas my wife and I bought a Christmas Tree at the Farmers' Market. She needed to run in the WM on Eisenhower on the way out of town. I was afraid to leave the truck in the lot with the tree on it, so I told her to go pick her stuff up and I would pick her up at the door. As I was waiting, two young thuggish looking characters came walking through the parking lot. They were stylin' and profilin'. They walked past the entrance, stopped and urinated against the wall. Broad daylight, probably 15 people within 100 feet of them. It was obviously an act of defiance, just 'cause they could, and nothing would be done about it.

Early this summer I went in the Harbor Freight tool place at the intersection of Eisenhower and Pio Nono. I shopped a few minutes and was checking out. I was about third in line when I noticed an older, well dressed lady with what was probably her late-teens granddaughter. The lady was standing at the door, and made eye contact with me. I figured it was someone I knew, and was racking my brain to remember who she was. I paid and headed to the door. The lady said, "Excuse me, but would you walk to our car with us? Two men followed us and are waiting outside." I looked, and sure enough, a pair of thugs. When I went out with them, the punks turned and walked down the sidewalk.

If they were to give Georgia an enema, they would insert the nozzle somewhere between Pio Nono and Oak Street.

Yes, I will be armed.

Yep, every time I went to Macon, I saw at least a couple of the special citizens... I refused to drive there unless I was armed myself.

hburney,
Great! You should be able to get plenty of Jerky then, just in case you're running low on it.

Man, that is sad... :( Glad you were there, but jeez... It's a cliche, but what's the country coming to...

Be safe.

I grew up in Macon. Much has changed. When I once lived, we could walk down to the end of the block and play in a corn field, pecan orchards and in the other direction we could go play in a patch of woods that was comprised of several hundred acres of pines and hardwoods. The orchard and cornfield was turned into a executive golf course that later closed. It is now some sort of city/county facility. The woods are now houses, etc. Further over is a large apartment complex, Wal-Mart and lots of other businesses. No one today leaves their doors unlocked at night. People are known to have alarms on their cars! And... there are folks who are criminals. There have always been such people. You find them in every place where people live, large or small. They are found from Macon's Mainstreet to NYC's Wallstreet. The criminals prey on the innocent. Wonder which ones are worse... the ones who steal wallets, etc., or the ones who steal the wealth of a nation?

I grew up in Macon. I return to Macon frequently. Like so many other cities/towns, Macon has lost a lot of its industry/factories, etc. A few years ago a tornado hit my community on Mother's Day. The vast majority of damage is now gone, just maybe some trees here and there that still stand, etc. The community of my childhood has changed. It would be nice if the same were not true of other communities, but that is not possible. I still go running through the community of my childhood. The church in which I grew up and by which I was licensed and ordained continues to minister to the residents of the community. And many of the houses where my friends and acquaintances used to live remain inhabited by new people. Many of them are fine people.

If it were possible I would go to the gun show in Macon. Unfortunately preparations for two services tomorrow and visits to church members occupy my time. I hope everyone who goes finds exactly what they are looking for. I have always had a good time at the big Macon gun shows. I enjoy visiting with members of the gun club. Many of the vendors are folks I've known for 20-30 years. Ya'll have fun now!

Not much luck at the show. There were a few 1911s there, but nothing I was really interested in. A man at one table had a Lightweight Commander that looked pretty good, priced at $850. Closer examination showed aftermarket beavertail safety, trigger, and sights. It still looked interesting, but he would only move $25 off the price. The only .45 Levers I saw were the cut-down Ranch hands, or whtever they call them. There were a good many S&W revolvers, but nothing that really turned me on, and as I stated in another thread, everybody was asking "Obama-scare" prices for so-so guns.

I don't know why I keep going to the shows. I guess I can't complain too much. Eight dollars to get in, probably $18 in gas, and I got to talk to a couple of old friends for an hour or two at their table.

Didnt see any beef jerky.

Found It!!

The heck with gun shows!!

Checked the GA ODT about an hour and a half ago:

FS/FT Mark IV Series 70 Govt. YOB 1976 "Original Unaltered Unmolested Condition"

It had been up about an hour. Not a great bargain, but a fair price. I sent a quick "I'll take it" reply and a PM to the seller. I have to drive all of 10 miles to meet him tomorrow afternoon.

Hey, saw that on ODT and thought of you. Hope it is what you want. Gun shows in this area, north of Macon, are really getting ridiculous. Prices are through the roof for marginal guns at best. Good luck with your purchase.
