Gun storage

I recently bought a gun safe and I was wondering what the general opinion was on the best way to place the (hand guns) in the safe; wrapped in oil rag, in soft cases (as they are now), on some soft or hard surface, in the door pouches or in racks? Opinions?

I've always kept mine in a silicone treated gun sock. I once stored a Ruger SP101 in a leather gun pouch (it was lined with a felt like material) and in a few weeks, there was rust on the front sight (which cleaned off easily, thankfully.)

I don't have racks, so I lay them flat on shelves. It may be silly, but I turn them over regularly (like they will get "flat spots" or something.)

I put most of mine in Bore Stores, they do a great job of protecting them from bumps, scratches, and nicks. I wipe them down with a good gun oil/clp first. I'm a big believer in not having guns in the safe without a gun sock, or without being in a box. Bad things happen when metal touches/bumps into metal/wood...

I also have some in their original boxes/wax paper. These are often nice safe queens and have a good coating of Rigs preservative grease on them, or Renaissance wax.

I built pegs that are felt covered and attached to the door. The handguns hang on them by the trigger guards.

I do pretty much the same thing, all blued handguns wet with oil lay on top of the yellow Hoppee cloths.

I have handguns that have been on borestores an the like for decades with nothing else done to them and I am in a higher humidity area.
Don't overthink it.
Bore stores are fantastic.
