Gun Transfer: South Africa to USA

I have a friend from South Africa. He moved here a year ago with his wife and daughter. His father, a South African, passed away and left him three collector-grade guns. I assume they are long guns but I don't know for sure since I heard about this second-hand through my wife.

Apparently, he is having trouble getting them here. I don't think the problem is a US problem, since he lives in Virginia and the gun rights laws are pretty good there. I think the problem is getting them transferred to himself in South Africa.

Does anyone have experience with SA laws, or know the correct way to get the guns here?

Personally, I don't have any experience with SA laws, but... I have an aquaintance from South Africa who lives in Virginia. From what I understand, he has or had a fairly large collection of guns and they are still in South Africa. I would think if he "could" get them, he would have.

The next time I see him, I'll ask about the SA laws regarding firearms.
