Gun Values

I have 2 guns that were left to me by my father and left to him by his father and my mothers father and then when my father passed away he left them to me. I am not getting my hopes up on any impressive value but I would like to get an idea on what they are worth and if any one would be interested in them as I want to get something more suited to me because that is father would want me to do. The first is a 4th Model .38 Hammerless Safety the only thing wrong with the finish is that there are some grooves in the cylinder. The second is a .32 long that the mfg date shows 1914. This gun isn't in horrible shape but does have some bad spots in the nickel. Any help I could get with my search would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. First, for a good estimate on value pictures would really help. Also might want to show the serial numbers to date the guns. You can x out the last couple of digits if you want.
Second, you say father would want you to sell them and get one suited for you. They are your guns now so you can do what you want but a lot of members around here have strong feelings about selling close relatives guns. Once you sell them they are gone and many times when someone does this they later regret it. If it were me I'd keep my father's guns and save up for something else I want. JMO.

Rev 1981, Welcome to the Forum. I agree with Bamabiker, you will be sorry you ever sold a family heirloom gun. Neither gun is a high value gun and you will only get a few dollars for them. probably not enough to fill your gas tank more than a couple of times! certainly not enough to buy a more modern S&W. A son or grandson will treasure these guns far more for their sentimental value some day, than their intrinsic value today. Ed.

Thanks fellas, I appreciate it. I think I am going to go with ya'lls advice and just save up and just keep these guns passed through the family. I will post pictures as soon as I can. Because even if I don't sell them it would be nice to know what they are worth.

Your plan is a good one as my most treasured gun and the one that will stay in our family forever is my Dad's Model 10-5 that he passed on to me. It's far from the most valuable money wise but it's worth it's weight in gold to me on a personal level.
