Here is the snubby 38 special that I HATE to shoot!!!

Several years ago, my wife bought this revolver for herself because it "fits my hand, is so light and pretty." (Should tell you something when the manufacturer ports the barrel of a 38 snub.)

Well to quote Forrest Gump, "Pretty is as pretty does."

I warned my wife about this revolver being too light, but she still wanted it...until she shot it. Two shots of standard velocity 38 Special cartridges and she handed "the beast" back to me. "Honey, it hurts to shoot this gun." I finished off the last three rounds and I must say, it BITES!! The gun has never been shot since.

Thanks for looking at the most unpleasant shooting handgun I've ever shot.

God bless,

I have a couple of S&W 642s, and while I wouldn't say I hate shooting them, they can be a handful. I do find I have to limit myself to ~75-100 rounds per session or I have to ice my hand.

I don't think I've ever owned a gun I hated shooting. However, several years ago I took a handgun course and was given the opportunity to shoot quite a few different types of handguns. One of them I definitely hated to shoot. It was a PPK. Most unpleasant gun I ever shot. Rapid firing 6 rounds of .44 Magnum through a Ruger Super Redhawk felt better, even though it left the palm of my hand red.

Another time I attended a LE pistol course that provided students with S&W 5906s. For whatever reason I just did not like the way it felt in my hand. I opted to use my personally-owned Beretta 92FS and did fairly well in the course after that.

The gun has never been shot since.

If that's the case, maybe you should consider selling it. Even if you lose money on the sale it'll probably be better than having a gun you'll never shoot taking up space in your safe. Just my opinion.

So far, as of late I've been putting alot of ammo down range out of the Shorty .40... I'm not recoil sensitive by any means, this thing is just putting a whooping on the hand, maybe she needs some rubber....

I don't hate it, but I dread shooting my Browning A-Bolt 12 gauge with 3" Winchester Partition Gold slugs.
It absolutely rattles my teeth.

Zeroing is always a pain but I don't notice it so much when shooting deer.

Recoil is not the only thing that makes pistols uncomfortable.

Hate is too strong a word but I definitely owned a few that I enjoyed so much less than others that I found them loving homes. One was a Spanish 9 mm that flung most empties into my forehead and sometimes lodging them between my glasses and the top of my nose. They're hot! Ouch! Another was a P-35/High Power copy that had the original military hammer spur shape. The hammer spur chewed skin off the web of my hand. I Could protect my hand by padding it with bandages before shooting but no other handgun's hammer has bitten me so why bother with it?

The only gun I don't mind to keep but have not much interest in shooting. I don't load 380s and it is rather smallish and not something that feels natural for some reason. And it's a PP, not a PPK which is even way worse, puny and was sold for that reason.

A Glock model 22 with the dreaded "New York trigger". It was so hard to pull that trigger I couldn't stay on target. I always think about it when I read a police report about officers shooting 20-30 rounds at a suspect and only hitting him once.

My wife (the brains in the family) said the same thing.

My Marlin 1895 in 45/70. It is a miserable rifle, punishing to shoot. Had a Limb Saver recoil pad installed a few years back. It doesn't hurt any more, but still kicks like an angry mule.

Ruger LC9s. Sleek, melted, conceals well, but there is something in the recoil impulse that just drives me nuts. I've put a Hogue on it, changed ammo weight, changed my grip, all to no avail. I bought a Kahr CW9 and it was all over with the Ruger, despite the trigger needing more learning on the Kahr.

I've since picked up a PPS M2 that was in the PSA sale last year. That is now THE small 9mm for me.

Cannot rise to the height of hate, but sure did dislike my Ruger LCP.... It is now just a memory.
I would much rather shoot my Sig 1911 Ultra Compact or Mod. 649, both of which I find rather a pleasure. Since I visit the range to stay proficient with my daily carry pieces, I am glad the LCP is no longer a daily carry.

I tried a standard Glock 22, but didn't like it. The Glock 23s finger grooves fit my hand fine, but not the 22s. I think the grooves are just ever-so-slightly further apart that I didn't like how it felt in my hand.

Never tried the NY2 trigger spring. Tried the NY1 with the standard connector in my G23. Not bad, but didn't care for it; had a tendency to drop shots. I ended up really liking the NY1 with a "-" connector. About the same weight as the standard trigger, but with resistance for the whole length of travel, making it more revolver-like. Good trigger reset, too.

AMT Backup in 9mm. Heavy for its size due to all stainless construction, sharp uncomfortable grip, and horrendous DA trigger pull. Painful after only a few rounds. Back in the day it was what was available in subcompact DAO 9mm's. Managed to qualify with it a few times, but eventually went back to a snubby revolver. Do I hate it? Nope, too much nostalgia involved. My son will no doubt sell it some day.
Good shootin',
Doug

Strong Words. Hate to Shoot

My NIB Colt Python. For ALL the obvious reasons. Mainly, NO SAFE QUEENS ALLOWED. They all have to pull their own weight.

I hated a Ruger SP100 357 that kicked real hard and had a horrible DA trigger. It didn't stay around long, actually made money on it selling it to a friend that had to have it. He still has it

My GP100 357 on the other hand is a joy to shoot.
