I impulse bid on model 24-3 last week. It was late and it is one of my grail guns. The photos looked okay - dirty but not great photos. I entered the minimum bid and to my surprise I won.

I was very pleasantly surprised when it came in. Faint cylinder ring, no muzzle wear, great grips, near perfect blue and overall a very nice revolver. It did have some fouling and heavy grease in places. Both cleaned up easily.

If you venture just outside the absolute red-hot collectible guns, you can find good deals if you're patient. Last year I won a LNIB 14-4 8-3/8" made in 1978, all books and tools in the box, for less than $800 as the only bidder. Long Tom .38 Specials are not something everyone's looking for. Contrast with the long tube K frame rimfires (17 and 48), they tend to go for much more. I also had decent luck with some older Colts, but forget about getting a deal on a snake gun or SAA.
