Two dead including the gunman. Prayers and thoughts go out to the families of the victims.

Yep here we go again. Maybe we should ban TV news. Prayers to the families of those hurt. We have to figure out a way to stop this. Cannot imagine how the families feel. It is like it is coming from all around us.

Too bad there wasn't another gunman there to stop him. The next thing we need to ban is the "No Guns Allowed" signs. Our country is not getting safer and is not the cops fault. I blame society, the media, and all the sheep that can't think for themselves.

Reports saying he killed himself.

Good. Now off to his eternal reward.

Too bad he didn't shoot himself first.

Yea...this one hits pretty close to home :( Be interesting to see how this plays out. 58 year old white guy just isn't your usual suspect in this type of thing.

Being from Baton Rouge, I was really surprised by this. While this sounds cliche as all get out, but that sort of stuff doesn't happen down here. Upon first hearing of it, I immediately thought of of parking lot shooting involving drugs or gang activity. Just as bad, but I could t least "get" that. However this incident just shows there are crazies everywhere. I do not really good to the theater anymore, and this just adds to my reasons not to. Gun free zone or not, a dark theater with high ground and few exits just seems like a bad place to be in general. I have a big screen HDTV and surround sound at home, as well as a pair of dogs and a three-five-seven. Il just stay home for movies for the time being.

These thing did not happen until mood altering drugs became common. The only thing that these monsters have in common.

Yes.. it was a gun-free zone.
Not quite. But I guess that was your point.

What I'd like to know is why they put these things in the news. I mean, anyone with more than half a brain should expect such things in a "gun-free" zone. They should be publishing news stories every time it doesn't happen, and printing long articles by sociology professors on why it didn't happen this week.

I don't know if that is the case. Certainly LSD and amphetamines are fairly modern inventions, but peyote, mushrooms, marijuana, opium and cocaine have long histories and were fairly common "medicine" in Victorian times. To say nothing of Alcohol.

If someone discharged two pepperboxes in a saloon during the gold rush, killed two and wounded several, it would have gotten a shrug and a mention in the local paper.

Reports are the shooter, may he rot in Hell, was a drifter type estranged from his family, from Alabama. He had been in Lafayette since early July, staying in a motel. A couple of run ins with the law nothing recent. LEO figure his plan was to escape but off'd himself (good) when he saw police advancing.
WHY no one knows, yet. We were glad to get a call while this was going on last night from our oldest son who lives near Lafayette, saying our 16 yr old Granddaughter was at home reading, not at the movies.
Condolences to the victims.

I assumed Wyatt was referring to legally prescribed pharmaceuticals.
