... just naturally go hand in hand.

We all have the image in our head of the solo cowboy camping and strumming a beat up old nylon string guitar out on the range. And not just in the US either, the Aussies have the same image of their Jackaroo. And both handguns and guitars have often been referred to as "Gats" particularly in modern vernacular.

So here are pics of a couple, of my guitars. They are both made by Ibanez and while not a matched set come pretty close.

The one on the left is my Ibanez Artcore archtop. Arch tops are often associated with jazz and blues, but this one is a bit of a closest rocker. I just have a thing for a deep red colour on a guitar, and this one can be plugged directly into a PA as an amplified acoustic or into an amp with a bit of growl as an electric.

The one on the right is my "concert" sized Ibanez acoustic. For a long time this was my "go to" acoustic guitar and I did a bit or recording with it, although most of my writing was done on it's predessesor which was a dreadnought size. I bought this one a month before a spinal fusion and it sat at the end of the couch during my recovery period.

So let's see a few more pics of your favourite non shooting "Gats" posted here.

Here ye are:

2007 Martin HD28 and 2009 Martin D-18GE

The tops are not white anymore, I use the D-18 a lot, it's loud, proud and in your face. The 28 is a better rhythm guitar and has a softer tone.

Guns and Guitars

I'm into both, having once played professionally. I own at least a half dozen guitars including a Guild X-500 and a home made solid body electric. I also perform some basic luthiery. I'm on vacation at the moment so I can't post photos.

Now, if you also like model trains, award yourself a Triple-Crown!

I have a few guitars, nothing high end, as I am an amazingly mediocre player.

I have an Ibanez AF75 archtop. Squire 72 Telecaster custom with a MityMite rosewood small head neck, with Gibson Burstbucker pickups and Gibson wiring. A Les Caster or TelePaul if you like. :) An Ibanez TMB30 Short Scale bass, and a old Alvarez Acoustic . I use a Fender Blues Jr. and Yamaha Bass Amp.

And this is the leastplayed guitar, and also the only Strat, that I own.

It is not that I dislike Strat's, I just just don't seem to like them that much. Ihave only ever found one, an Eric Clapton signature guitar, that felt "right" to me.

This is a cheap Squire that I bought for under $200 NZ new!

I walked into my local guitar store one day and the colour caught my eye. I had a recording project in mind that I wanted a single coil Strat sound for, so I bought it. I had a torn rotator cuff at the time so the guitar sat in it's box in my garage for over a year until I healed up and got around to the recording. Since then (mid 2013) I think I've played it less a half a dozen times, usually when I want to play something with that classic Fender single coil and amp sound.

And as I realised a few weeks ago it still has the original 9 gauge strings fitted by the factory (usually the first thing I do with a new guitar
is to fit and set up a set of Ernie Ball Slinky 11's).

Over the years I have only been a "closet guitarist", one who on occasion would take out a guitar to play/practice on. I could play along to some songs using tabs but never put in the time.
For years I have been a fan of the bands Savatage and TSO and back in the 90's was lucky to win a package that included a signed guitar from the TSO creators. It has just been a wall hanger but esp after the one passed last year it will never leave my possession.

I'm more of a banjo guy, both 5-string and 10-string, but everyone needs a guitar. I have a Mosrite 12-string from 1965-66. It isn't every day when you see someone playing an old Mosrite. My son plays an Ibanez 5-string bass. I have suggested that we get some other guys and form a band like The Ventures. My son thinks that my horse must have kicked me in the head...again.

I have a friend who is always trying to put together a Shadows tribute band. He is always on the lookout for a "just right shade of red" strat or Burns guitar. He must have gone through a half dozen in the last 2 years.

He is also seemingly alway auditioning for bass or drum players.

I keep telling him to get out on the chartered Club circuit her in NZ. They'll more than make a living.

I got to help do a fret job on a Taylor a couple of weeks ago. It turned out nice. The frets came out with no chips. My friend is building a shop in his back yard just for guitar repair. I've been invited to be a pest. LOL.

Actually he likes my advice and we learn from each other. I'm thinking about setting up to do the refinish and paint work. What the heck, I have all of the tools.

Here's a couple of '67 Hagstroms I have.

An unfinished project. Sad but true, it hangs is a closet these days. Mahogany back, sides and neck, rosewood bridge and fretboard. Bought the wood, did all the work by hand, including the bending and other things. Built tooling and fixtures as I went along.
