GUNS AND THE NEWS

Bryan Williams was actually having a cheeseburger at the Twin Peaks when this all went down, but some people will not let him have the air time to explain just what really happened. You will have to wait a few months for the real truth about those small caliber weapon that were present.

The solution to bad news reporting is...

...stop watching it.

News free for five years and brother i ain't goin back to watch any now. It's all bunk.

This is an extraordinary statement.

Where do you get your info on new road construction?

Where do you get you info on the local, state political
races?

Where do you get your info in general about your
community?

How do you get your info on international events?

How do you know what across the globe in business or
geo-politics affects you?

How do you know about the latest in medical news, medical
coverage and health care and what breakthroughs have
occurred that might relate to your own personal health care?

You said "watch it" but did you never get news from anywhere but TV?

A very extraordinary statement indeed.

Newspaper and TV reporters must attend special training to learn to screw-up firearms reporting as badly as they do. There is no way IMO that they can possibly come by this trait naturally. We've all seen this countless times," the fully automatic revolver", "the 12 caliber assault shotgun", and the" 60 caliber machine-gun, M-60".

Today's El Paso Times had an Associated Press article by Emily Schmall on the biker gang shootout in Waco. In the article is the following bit of interesting technical theory. Don't know whether it's the reporter's fault or the ATF&E agent's blame, but I found it amusing. I still can't figure out what it has to do with the gunfight.

" Jennifer Cicolani, of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, noted that a semi-automatic gun can shoot more bullets in less time than a small-caliber weapon."

This single events has generated more misreporting and more LEO cluster activity than anything I've witnessed in recent time.

Walter Cronkite was the idiot who when he heard Dan Rather's footsteps coming up behind him to replace him at CBS news, desperately needed a big story to fend off Rather......

Then the Tet Offensive happened in Nam........... every Viet Cong element was put into the battles across Viet Nam, and was utterly destroyed......The few North Viet Namese regiments sent into the fray took casualties in the 90% or worse range, the other side lost men in the 10's of thousands KIA.......... In contrast, US troops, & our allies, lost men in the hundreds KIA with more that were WIA............No other victory was so complete in US military history..... the great Mariannas Turkey Shoot came close.....but Tet was even a more decisive win than that.

To hell with Uncle Walter........... he was still replaced by Dan Rather.......... though CBS ran the story too......he was shoved aside............

Despite these clear facts......with every dead VC & NVA lined up in rows.....Uncle Walter got up on the news & proclaimed that the US had suffered a terrible defeat and that the war was lost....................He did this every day & night at every opportunity & the all of the media seized his lies & ran with his version.......

When I was making the Cronkite post--I actually thought of using Walter Wenchell instead.Cronkite came out as a stark-raving liberal shortly before he died--and my bubble was not only deflated-but completely burst. I lost respect forhim. On the upside--I didnt know he had said that about Tet.

Though I cant now find the source about rather--rather was the idiot who coined: "Baby-Killers" and on our guys. I never liked rather and en less after his famed attempt on Geo Bush--the ""Bush Papers.""

I was in no way defending Rather...just explaining why Cronkite decided to fabricate the web of lies about Tet being a terrible military defeat for the US forces & our allies......To most policemen there are few creatures as low as most reporters..... when we find a good one we cherish them.........., generally they are considered as being as bad as if not worse than the worst politican........

Media bias is far more obvious now than even 20 years ago, and it was bad then. I wish I could understand why. Nobody reports anything, they only editorialize and spin the news.

Ben Franklin deplored his journalistic rivals for being liars and scalawags of the worst sort for not agreeing with his every comment and report.

Nothing new.

Actual "unbiased" and straight reporting sans adjectives started to be more an objective after the beginning of the 20th Century, but you couldn't tell Hearst, McCormick, Pulitzer et. al.
that.

Oh, and in the tradition of news gathering, don't call a newspaperman a journalist because the very word "journalist"
implies the reality of interpretation. Few in the news business
just want to give the who, what, when, where, why and how
without embellishment. It doesn't build careers especially on TV.

You guys realize alot of people arent familiar with guns. Hence the mistakes? I guaranty people could talk some academic subject to you guys, when you try to say something, youll.look stupid. I dont understand why so many gun owners think theyre the smartest people in the world and everyone is dumb just because they understand "2A" and know about guns.

I'm polar opposite of the "smartest people" and knowing this helps me keep my piehole shut regarding topics I know nothing about. Joe

Lack of expertise may be tolerable for anyone in the context of casual conversation...but I think it is fair to expect a lawmaker to intrinsically understand a subject prior to introducing or sponsoring legislation in hopes that it may become the law of the land. Is that really asking too much?

Why I hate the media!

When my brother was in Viet Nam, he was taking some R&R in Saigon and was seated on the balcony of his hotel. It over looked a busy intersection in the city. He saw a US news crew with a camera on the corner just standing there. Down one of the streets was a group of children carrying sign and banners, all in Vietnamese. My brother knew enough of the language to see this was a religious group on their way to pay homage to Budda. As the religious group approached the corner where the news crew was standing, one of of the crew members pulled a tear gas grenade from his bag and threw it into the group of children. The ensuing chaos was filmed by the cameraman. Two days later this film clip was on the US national news as "children rioting against the war". My brother said that if had his M16 with him on that balcony, there would have been one dead news crew!
