Guns as collectables-against Barbie

Fast forward to this year. Barbie movie drops, US gets Barbie mania again. Wife says my Aunt left me a Barbie. We get it out and its a 1960 Teenage Fashion Barbie in box in great condition and all accessories and paperwork. Look it up and it sold for $3 in 1960 and worth upwards of $5K today.

The 1959 first year Remington Nylon 66 in Seneca green sold for $49 new and today (without box and fired) is worth $600 at high end. The Colt 380 is probably about the same price and I am not sure what it sold for in 29.

Looks like she got the better of the inheritance after all.

The 1960's Barbie is worth what someone will pay you for it. Just because some knucklehead says it's worth 5000 doesn't mean you'll find someone gullible enough to actually pay you 5000 for it. If you want to see what a 1960's Barbie is really worth, look on gunbroker for completed auctions.

It amazes me what Barbie collectors will pay for injection molded plastic. Based on the particular piece's age and initial price, if a 1960 Barbie Pink Corvette in it's original box is worth $5-7K, then a 1st Year S&W M57 or M58 with its original box should be worth about half a million $$$. What's wrong with this picture?? Looks like we're playing with the wrong toys.:D

About 25 years ago, after several requests for our children to come home and claim what ever they still wanted in their old rooms as we were planning to sell the house and build in the future. They both said they didn't want anything. Cleaning out there was a large amount of both Barbie and GI Joe toys etc. I had a couple collectors come in and make an offer for each. We got reasonable $ for the stuff, but no where near what you are talking about. This included Barbie car, GI Joe Jeep and lots of other accessories. I think I recall we got around $300 for all of it.

Collectors want NIB for Barbie stuff, just like S&W collectors want for revolvers.
