Guns you will never shoot, what % of your collection?

Interesting thread to be sure. I got to thinking about it, and I suppose I only have a couple I wouldn't shoot now. I did have several more modern "nib" .44 Special models but I boxed them up and sent them to a seller when I started focusing on the Centennial Catalog. I'm just not able to afford to keep them all. Most of the best condition '52 guns I find now have been shot a little in addition to the factory test firing. I have a couple of true "99%"ers that I won't shoot so I looked for a shooter grade in that model to enjoy.

I've shot pretty much all of my collection, or will. The only guns that won't be shot are the ones that I can't shoot for one reason or another. I have a Norwegian Falling Block from the 1870s chambered in lord only knows what. Can't really shoot that without casting the chamber and custom making some brass and bullets. I'm not going to go to all that trouble at this point.

The only other guns I don't shoot is because I have duplicates of them and if one gun is an exact copy of another I don't really need to shoot it. That said, most duplicates day's are numbered in my collection.

I'm sure the ones I don't shoot is over 90%.
I don't see anything wrong with owning a gun just because you like it, think its beautiful etc. I have a Colt SAA that I never turned the cylinder on, and I never will. Sort of like art work, its to be enjoyed and admired.

To me, its like going up to a stamp collector and saying, are you going to mail a letter with that early 1800s stamp? That's what it was made for? Or are you just gonna keep it around and look at it?

If that makes me less of a man, an object of ridicule from the "I shoot all my guns, boy!", crowd, then so be it.

I bought all my guns for a purpose, and I enjoy them. Some of them, like a 617, a M&P 22 pistol etc, I even shoot occasionally.

We're going to need told a historic yarn involving gun toting Pony Express riders in order to draw the above comparison involving apples and oranges. ;)

There are a number of guns I own that I have never shot. Not because I don't want to, but rather because I don't have the time. My life is very busy right now. I would love to shoot them, but time just does not permit me to.

Only one.

I have only one I do not shoot. A model 27 no dash with 3.5 inch barrel... in absolute mint condition. I am looking for a 3.5 inch shooter, but those are hard to come by without spending big $$$.

I have turned down great offers to sell me un-fired un-turned highly collectable guns. I turned them down because I knew I would take it home, clean it, and take it to the range.

I have a hand full/maybe double hand full.... I shoot regularly.......

My "collection" doesn't stack up to most here......fact is I never set out to "collect" .......... somehow it just happened....LOL

So in answer to the question:

More than a few have not been shot (by me)...including

My Dad's .357magnum King's customized Colt New Service, the Registered Magnum.......a premo pre 17....... some other family guns........

Some are my wife's.. a Model 15, 2" 10-5, blue Interarms PPK and a birth year 17....... which don't get shot much......LOL

Some are back-ups to my carry guns..... tested and stored..... 3" 66, PC 6906, and some "extra" 3913/14s and 6906s...LOL

Some braces of S&Ws are set aside for my two boys...... 3" 66s, 19/66s,686/586s, pre 17s,........

I will admit I have few guns I bought with a purpose in mind ....but I got side tracked with the family, boys soccer etc.......that have never been shot

Generally.........

I've been lucky to buying guns over the past 30 years..... often just because the price was too good to pass up and the gun was/is a back up to my back up, or just neat to have... others have been "gun shop saves"(pre 39, nib Colt Diamondback, 66-0 w/ stainless sights, 3" 66, a nib factory round butt 4" 586-6?) though I have sold off several of these over the past couple of years and converted the $s to more practical S&Ws.

The past 3-4 years has seen me go back to shooting more .22 rifles (CZs) even with the .22 shortage.......

Zip here as well.

I have a few semi collectible guns, and as much as I love and admire them, I like to shoot and carry them more.

Anything that has more value as a collectible than shooter I stay away from.

100%.

The wheelguns in the "collection" are just that part of my collection.

I have other handguns for duty/off duty carry & home defense etc. as well as a few long guns. Those are the "shooters".

Don't know the exact percentage, but there are some that will never be shot by me, but most that have been shot are not off limits to be shot. However, when I joined the range, I was the only one shooting a pre war 4inch HD!:D

Over the last 10 years, I "weeded" out my collection - especially long guns. I enjoy shooting 38s and have a number of them - some get shot more tan others but they all do get shot over time. The only "queen" I have is a 4" Colt Python (sorry to mention that name on this forum :-) ). I purchased it as an "investment" - it's about 98% - as I wass interested in seeing what the "Python experience" was all about. Personally, I don't like it. To me it has so much iron that it's like shooting a boat anchor - give me my old M & P and Im happy. The Python is accurate and well built but just not my "cup of tea". For what I paid for it though,it can sit and just increase in value like a good stock investment. If all I have is one that I don't shoot laying around, I don't feel too guilty about it!
