Gunshop Discount Bin - What have you picked up?

Boatload of G17, G19, G20, G21 mags, tons of 92fs mags, tons of 3rd Gen mags, tons of oem and mec-gar BHP mags, to date around 40 mags for my shields in 9/40/45, and probably near 50 m&p 9 17rd mags. About 10 years ago, in the right place at the right time I was at an estate sale of an ffl, got my hands on nearly 300 factory mags still packaged, nearly 200 it's pachmyer 1911 mags, holsters galore, enough parts to build 45 to 50 1911s and roughly 2000 mag rebuild kits for the 1911, 92fs, BHP, and various blocks. The ABSOLUTE treasure trove of this place was his massive collection of Safari Arms 1911s, about 40, and enough parts to build another 15. I am a Safari Arms WHORE. This was at a time when private sales were legal without an FFL. Don't get me going about the ammo. I had to run down the street and rent a uhaul, stop at the outlet mall shops and buy the wife a pair of coach purses, shoes she's been after, and a diamond earrings from woodman's jewelers, you know, to distract her from the fact I came home in a uhaul. My local paw now has several mag bins I hit twice weekly and buy virtually everything $5 ea or 5 for $20

I was looking through a box of assorted gun junk at a shop when the guy told me to take it all for $50 if I wanted it. I bought the box which a set of actual ivory 1911 grips, assorted old Colt and S&W grips, various buttplates, and assorted Remington 700 and Winchester Model 70 parts. Those ivory grips alone were worth a few hundred dollars.

Yesterday a guy brought in 17 guns to put on consignment, my eyes grew wide, but the only thing he had interesting to me was a Russian made SKS and a 3rd gen S&W 5906. $700 for the SKS and $650 for the S&W. I may jump on the Smith if I can get that at our cost, not sure about consignment items yet.

I love digging in the junk bins.

Last two fun finds included an El Paso Saddlery holster for a SIG P220 and a Milt Sparks VM2 for a Glock 26 for $10 each.

I've found dozens of great deals on mags, holsters, parts all for cheap.

It usually takes someone knowing what it is and what its worth to buy it. Also knowing where to sell it and target audience. Like the guy said above, you'll find great deals on revolvers at a shop that specializes in semi autos.

A few years back, there was an unpriced Smith & Wesson magazine in the bargain bin. Sought out the assistant manager, who I knew vaguely, showed him the mag and told him it wasn't priced.
He looked at it, then asked me if I knew what it was for. I nodded, he smiled and said how about five bucks? Got another magazine for my 52–2.
I am under the impression that a lot of these items are brought in with firearms the store acquires. Don't believe they have much if anything tied up in the bargain bin items.

I was at a nearby gun store when I noticed a bin near the front door. It was loaded with gunmaker branded pistol boxes. The story as I recall was that people would buy a new handgun and on their way out would just dispose of the box by throwing it in this bin. My brother and I had arranged to rent a table at an Ohio Gun Collectors Association show, so I made a deal to buy the whole bin and took it to the gun show. I remember that one gentleman was very happy that as part of the pile I had a box for a .45 Firestar. So it turned out that a lot of boxes got re-homed.

Always on the lookout for any vintage leather and preferably tan. If I have a reasonable idea of what it fits, I buy it. I am always looking to upgrade what I have for my own stuff. Probably have 2-3 spare holsters for every J-frame I own---I just can't help myself. :) I used to sell off the rest on line, but with time being scarce these days, I save it all up for a single gun show table once a year. I do my best to research what it fits so I can "sell" them at the show. I figure for everyone I sell, I got one for free once I cover the table cost. Is it just me or do I have a problem?

Years ago I went into a local gun store and noticed behind the counter a couple dozen Tyler T-grips all new in boxes. I asked to look at them and began picking out ones for K frames. The lady working there offered to sell me the whole pile for what amounted to two dollars a piece as they were going out of business. I shake my head when I see people paying the prices they do now for those things.
I have also accumulated a fair collection of old speed loaders out of junk boxes at gun shops and gun shows.

I've found various magazines, holsters and reloading gear on junk boxes over the years. Always have to look whenever I find a shop with a bargain box. Never know what might come in with a trade or from someone just clearing stuff out. Best finds I can think of offhand were a WWI issue 1911 holster and a German holster for an old Sauer & Sohn 7.65 auto that still had the spare clip in it for $5 each. Been plenty of other deals, bags of various stripper clips, 1/2 moon clips, small gun tools. I like bargain bins!

I once got a pre-18 gold box... in it was all the paperwork and a black oxide S&W Sight Adjustment Tool (Screw Driver). But that was not the best part... when I got home I found I HAD THE CORRECT matching serial PRE-18! No Kidding!
Talk about a long shot!

On the Luger board there is a long running thread to post your magazines in an effort to swap around to get the ones numbered to your luger. Probably less than half a percent chance of making the connection!

Closest I got to that was a $15 Bianchi UM84 holster. After I got out of the service I gave it to a buddy that was still in. Our gaurd MP unit was still using 1911a1's and black flap holsters. I had the nylon Bianchi and a matching mag carrier. It was no faster or secure but it didn't look so damn worn out.

Once, long ago here we had a stock matching service... We were attempting to match up serialized stocks which were found loose with their correct guns. Alot of work went into that effort, but I don't remember anyone making a match....

Holy cow what a score!

I missed out on two junk bin deals
four HKS 947 speed loaders slight water damage to cardboard but brand new for $5 each but snagged up while I stood there
this one still hurts
it was a gun show and had just opened and if I had just picked one aisle to go down versus the one I picked I would have gotten to them first

a local gun shop got in an estate that had several Allesi holsters - they did not sell for months so put them out for free!!! I missed it by a week.

I have grabbed several other deals
a 3" Jaypee NYPD revolver holster for $10
federal leather belt holster for a j frame for $5
scored a brand new set of Herrett grips in the box for k frame square butt plus oem colt wood grips for a colt official police slightly used for $100 for both
Colt grips alone were worth that
Walther PPK/S mag for $10
A slightly used set of checkered Herrett for round butt k frame for $10 that make shooting the 66-1 a breeze with magnum loads
love those grips

Fingers crossed for more deals at some upcoming shows
