I'm home, alive, but tired. I had a really good time. Didn't sell squat, and blew a bunch of green.

For those who hate gunshows, stay home. We don't need you.

It was more a friends and family reunion than anything else. We had two adjacent tables, lined by 9 chairs and Glen's wheelchair. All were filled at one time or another. Some pretty good conversations, lots of fertilizer airborne!

Charile Sherrill had his first annual book signing ceremony. For those who missed it, good luck in September, he and Junior are skipping June's show. Charile is still trying to get back to 100% from his recent knee operation. He and our friend Glen spent a few hours trading stories. We didn't see much of his son or the son's friend. They spent their time over in the Military show, their area of interest.

Lots of interesting little appearances. Saturday I walked past David Carrolls table and next to him was Ray Brazile's 2 tables. Sitting next to him, hard in conspiracy talk was some other old guy with a name tag that said "Joe Wannenmacher." Whoever that would be.

I was out on a mission, probably trying to view the ammo tables when I got a cell phone call. it was our tables, wondering when I was coming back. Keith44spl was there, wanting to visit. Interesting guy with lots of stories.

There were a lot of cool guns and accessories. Blake, one of our mostly lurkers, sometimes poster was there. For anyone interested he had a set of N square PC Magna's. He didn't sell them and wanted $75 for them. The guy with the M58 who needed them needs to get in touch.

My back hurts. Its from lugging all the cheap ammo out of the building. It appears the guys with old stocks of formerly premium ammo are letting it go. A lot of sellers with Super-Vel ammo are selling at fair prices (compared to current asking prices.)

The ammo tables were stacked 3 and 4 people deep, and as someone would leave others too their places. First all the ammo sold, then the componets. Particularly hard hit was the stuff for EBRs, and then anything for semi-auto handguns. The real bargains were at the tables of individual sellers. Not new ammo, but US production commercial grade lasts longer than humans.

I blew a bundle. I'm broke. I did manage to pick off a few nice guns. Friday night I found a 329. Saturday morning prior to the general public coming inside, I picked up 2 44 Specials. One a 4" Triple Lock, the other a 4" 3rd model. Both nickel. Nice guns. The seller commented when he suckered me into the deal "these are the heart of 30 years collecting." Don't feel too sorry for him, he got his money.

I also picked off a nice M19. It was one of those pre-arranged deals, also before opening Saturday. I paid the guy his $500 for the gun, nearly new, with a great set of magna's. Then some guy stumbled past our booth with a not so nice looking pair of correct grips. He wanted $20 for them, so I bought them and stuck them on the M19. I then gave the gun and its box to one of my son's. The present guess is I've got $520 in a set of non-diamond Magna's. All I need is more volume.

Supper steak was OK if slow. Louisville KY should advertise itself as the home of casual and relaxing dining. You have time for a nap before you ever see a waiter/waitress. And almost a nights sleep before you ever see your food. I'm kind of a bigot. I love a well spoken southern accent. I don't have a lot of use for a haughty type who combines it with a lisp and the southern accent. Particularly when he's slow as molasses.

Man, you made good time getting home. I thought you were a drive 55, squeeze the last foot out of a gallon kind of guy.

I'm tired from toting ammo myself. If you use French made 45acp does that mean you automatically lose the gunfight? I hope not because I bought 29 boxes.

Dick, Blake told me that the 44 Smith that wasn't up to your standards was sold at full asking price to Hank Williams Jr. Do you know something Hank doesn't or did he find a diamond you missed?

I did a good deed. A guy came up with a Missouri State police mod 66 4" carry gun. Had Hwy patrol seal on it and box, tools etc. Ask was $400. I didn't want it but one of my buddies is a retired Missouri trooper so I put them together. Turns out my pal knew the officer that carried the gun and had much in common with the fellow selling it. The deal was made and I got an attaboy from both sides.

What Hank bought was one of the rare ones with the bumper shop hammer and trigger, in bright chrome!

Blake knows its a refinish, as did anyone who looked at it. The $650 price wasn't outlandish, probably fair for the gun. I'll even buy a refinished gun if its well done. I had one in my case, and you gave it a quick once over.

hillbilly bling.....probably gonna give it to Kid Rock.

I notice you didn't mention the brassiere bling that Charlie gave you. Didn't he say she wore it as a nipple ring?

I just walked in the door and I'm worn out. Over 1300 miles in two days. I foound 250 rounds of .30 cal carbine ammo, some silver tip .41 magnums for my 58, a box of .38 Super Vel and some Beretta mags. My freezer went out Thursday night as we were getting ready to go and we had to shuffle several hundred pounds of wild game and fish into other freezers or lose it. This cut severely into my gun buying money and I started not to go. I managed to save enough "trip money" I had allocated to pay for the freezer so Jr. is going to take care of that. I just poured a glass of muscadine wine and am currently trying to unwind. Ask Dick about the holster one of his new guns came in.

By the time the new gun got to me, it had somehow become separated from its holster. I was never informed of the brand holster it came in, or the model number. Information was kind of sketchy, at best. As I understand the problem, there were no photo's of the gun when it was in use.

I didn't get ammo or a chrome plated Hank JR autograph!?!

Didn't see much that I couldn't live without or didn't already have. I'm a beer drinker in a wine tastin' crowd when it comes to triple locks and 38/44 HD's, did I mention I ALMOST bought a 3in Mod 10?
I did find a set of smooth target K frame stocks. A guy had a pile of Pacs, Hogue and Jay Scott grips. I wondered if maybe, just maybe someting interesting might be in the bottom of the box.
I found a box marked Herrett's Gun Stocks! Oh man... I open it up and... just a factory set of "presentation" grips. I paid him his 20 and moved along.
Dick, I'm down to buyin' grips, boxes and (gulp)

I don't know about Hank's deal, but am confident that Dick never misses a diamond in the rough, so it must be the former. It says something about his standards that he can easily shun off a gun that Hank Jr. would desire. Should Patton's Registered ever come up for sale, Dick would critique the holster wear and that it doesn't have the original stocks.

I learned this weekend that in addition to being a Smith guru and forum moderator, Dick is also an accomplished food critic. In fact, he has reached such a high degree of prestige that Lee had to miss the show to patrol the forum, while his trusted moderator was having the time of his life.
Perhaps Lee needs to bestow rburg with the title "moderator emeritus".

Dick,
You ever his Buckheads at Preston and Outer Loop? They have some damn fine steak there and the service is pretty good as well. My SIL had taken up part time work there again, she's good lookin, so watch your self if you take Mrs. Burg. I like 5th Quarter, but as you said, it's like waiting for the government to do something right. We also like the Texas RoadHouse, but the wait is usually not worth it. I used to live directly across the Outerloop from the Roadhouse on Pitsford Road. The lot where my house was, is now an empty field. I have to try to get home sometime for one of the National Gun Days, it's been about 25 years since I have been to a gun show at the State Fair Grounds.

mtb1bkr, you act like I have a say in where I'm taking her. We go where she says we go. My job is to drive, pay, then drive back. Any input will simply get me in more trouble. Given the amount I dropped at that gunshow, I'm watching my steps very carefully.

Worse, today I've got to appear at a certain dealers premises and bail another gun out. Some minor issue with paperwork to get it all legal like.

Well, had a big time at the Louisville show on Saturday. There was sure a lot of people there. Got to look at a lot of really nice guns, and a lot of Really Nice Price tags too. I also got to meet a couple of the forum members too, which is always a good thing. Got to meet Dick, and Charlie was hanging out there at the same table. I think Dick was kind of disappointed that I wasn't an old man like him
icon_wink.gif
, but that's alright, I still enjoyed getting to meet him. I did ask him if there were any good deals on smith's left, which he took pride in telling me that he got them all Friday night. Having said that Dick, as I was literally walking out of the show room, a fellow walked in carrying a nice blue box. I asked him what he had there, he said he had an unfired 38 spl. He opened the box, and there sat an unfired, mint model 12 with the papers/tools, etc. Just for the heck of it, I asked him what he wanted for it. He said, " I'd like to get $400 for it, but I'd take $350. So Mr. Burg, maybe you didn't end up with all the decent deals.

This isn't a Jennings but I think it represents the manner that Dick's gun was carried. Bet the pat down is one of the best parts of your job, eh Charlie?

Dick, have you taken the Jennings for a test drive yet? I was bragging on your high standards last night, but had forgotten about the Jennings.

I don't have any "high standards". Oh, not the guns? Still looking for a HiPoint and a Lorcin.

And a black holster.
