I'm home, alive, but tired. I had a really good time. Didn't sell squat, and blew a bunch of green.
For those who hate gunshows, stay home. We don't need you.
It was more a friends and family reunion than anything else. We had two adjacent tables, lined by 9 chairs and Glen's wheelchair. All were filled at one time or another. Some pretty good conversations, lots of fertilizer airborne!
Charile Sherrill had his first annual book signing ceremony. For those who missed it, good luck in September, he and Junior are skipping June's show. Charile is still trying to get back to 100% from his recent knee operation. He and our friend Glen spent a few hours trading stories. We didn't see much of his son or the son's friend. They spent their time over in the Military show, their area of interest.
Lots of interesting little appearances. Saturday I walked past David Carrolls table and next to him was Ray Brazile's 2 tables. Sitting next to him, hard in conspiracy talk was some other old guy with a name tag that said "Joe Wannenmacher." Whoever that would be.
I was out on a mission, probably trying to view the ammo tables when I got a cell phone call. it was our tables, wondering when I was coming back. Keith44spl was there, wanting to visit. Interesting guy with lots of stories.
There were a lot of cool guns and accessories. Blake, one of our mostly lurkers, sometimes poster was there. For anyone interested he had a set of N square PC Magna's. He didn't sell them and wanted $75 for them. The guy with the M58 who needed them needs to get in touch.
My back hurts. Its from lugging all the cheap ammo out of the building. It appears the guys with old stocks of formerly premium ammo are letting it go. A lot of sellers with Super-Vel ammo are selling at fair prices (compared to current asking prices.)
The ammo tables were stacked 3 and 4 people deep, and as someone would leave others too their places. First all the ammo sold, then the componets. Particularly hard hit was the stuff for EBRs, and then anything for semi-auto handguns. The real bargains were at the tables of individual sellers. Not new ammo, but US production commercial grade lasts longer than humans.
I blew a bundle. I'm broke. I did manage to pick off a few nice guns. Friday night I found a 329. Saturday morning prior to the general public coming inside, I picked up 2 44 Specials. One a 4" Triple Lock, the other a 4" 3rd model. Both nickel. Nice guns. The seller commented when he suckered me into the deal "these are the heart of 30 years collecting." Don't feel too sorry for him, he got his money.
I also picked off a nice M19. It was one of those pre-arranged deals, also before opening Saturday. I paid the guy his $500 for the gun, nearly new, with a great set of magna's. Then some guy stumbled past our booth with a not so nice looking pair of correct grips. He wanted $20 for them, so I bought them and stuck them on the M19. I then gave the gun and its box to one of my son's. The present guess is I've got $520 in a set of non-diamond Magna's. All I need is more volume.
Supper steak was OK if slow. Louisville KY should advertise itself as the home of casual and relaxing dining. You have time for a nap before you ever see a waiter/waitress. And almost a nights sleep before you ever see your food. I'm kind of a bigot. I love a well spoken southern accent. I don't have a lot of use for a haughty type who combines it with a lisp and the southern accent. Particularly when he's slow as molasses.
