I've read that there is an effort being made to expand HR 218 so that those who are covered under this law may carry into Post Offices and other Federal buildings.

Who are some of the groups that are pushing for this improvement? Are there any in the Senate or House that are spearheading this?

It seems that we may be entering a good season to push for this.

Passed House (05/16/2024)
LEOSA Reform Act of 2024

This bill broadens the authority for certain law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms across state lines.

Specifically, the bill allows qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms and ammunition (including magazines) in school zones; in national parks; on state, local, or private property that is open to the public; and in certain federal facilities that are open to the public.

Further, the bill permits states to reduce the frequency with which retired law enforcement officers must meet certain qualification standards.

When HR 354 got to the Senate in May 2024 it died in committee. Did not become law.

FWIW, the reference to HR 218 was only valid 20 years ago before it passed. Once passed, the proper citation is either "LEOSA" or if you are a nerd like me, 18USC 926b/926c.

That is a level of imprecision I find intolerable for folks in the system. Resolution #s change with each session. Proper citation to laws matters.

There is talk I have been hearing that it is the intention of the incoming President to make reciprocity work for all States. After all, our driver's license privileges are honored in all - so why not our 2nd Am. rights!? Will this will ever come to be - I'd not take bets on it since politicians always find a way to forget, delay, postpone, ignore, disobey..........

I see no reason lawful and law abiding citizens should not have the same rights as LEO's, either active or retired. All we can do is hope for the best.
