Had an interesting encounter at Lowe’s this afternoon

Navy vs Marines? Who can get higher up the wall, perhaps.:D

I have absolutely no idea what this even means. Did you read the OP carefully?

According to tlawler the passenger, the Marine looked like he was reaching for a gun when tlawer got out of his truck.

Now the legalities of what the guy did are irrelevant. My question is why would you go out of your way to antagonize somebody that you think is armed and is demonstrating that they have a short fuse and poor decision-making skills?

What was that deal some months back....

Hospital Corpsman Third Class here that served w/the Marines in Nam and I wouldn’t have taken offense at either term. I think you had the misfortune to run into a guy who was looking for trouble, but you handled it pretty well. Guess it takes all kinds . . . .

...when somebody got all over a woman in a convenience store lot and when her male friend push him down he pulled a gun and started shooting?

It's bothersome enough that people are edgy, but trying edge their way into gun play.....?

So she made a comment to you, you approached to hear what she said and her hubby was ready to pull a pistol.

Damn. Just damn.:confused::confused::confused:

Busybodies who think they are the “parking police” are annoying. You were obviously perfectly right to park there with whatever vehicle. But ....

With all due respect, you might want to evaluate your de-escalation strategies.

A short remark that you are indeed a veteran would have been plenty sufficient. Your wordy response and the whole business with your bosses’ phone number was unnecessarily argumentative and served no purpose, and the final insult also goes on your account as your call-out re-ignited a situation that was already over and done at that point. Whether the “jarhead” term itself is acceptable didn’t matter; it was obviously perceived as another attempt by you to keep the argument going.

I wasn’t there and can only go by your description, but they don’t really look like the ones who wanted a fight ....

YOU'RE the veteran, the type of vehicle is irrelevant. Some people just look for things to complain about - it makes them happy.

I have two sons that are "Jarheads" and unless they require ID for those spots, they're fair game in my book.

I always liked Eleanor Roosevelt's quote about the Marines. As I recall she said this to a group of Marines gathered in the South Pacific back during WWII. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It went:

“The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!”

― Eleanor Roosevelt

Confrontational

It's best not to provoke confrontations or respond to them. People have been killed for stupid reasons. A recent fatal confrontation involved a handicapped parking spot. Don't remember the details.

I live in NC which is a one-plate state. My car has a "Vietnam Veteran" plate on the front while my wife's car sports the the green, yellow and red Vietnam campaign plate on the front.

Veteran parking, is based on the honor system and people should not be taking upon themselves to enforce it. Besides, there's no summonable violation.

I'm a 78 yo Army veteran and still able-bodied. It would never occur to me to park in a veteran spot. I sort of imagine they should be used by vets who need them for various reasons.

I'm familiar with the parking lot rage syndrome. It happens occasionally when someone takes a handicap spot but appears able-bodied.

I think the rest of my life is too short to fight over trivial episodes.

I read this somewhere...

A soft answer turns away wrath,
But a harsh word stirs up anger.

Spot on! I'm that guy.

Add to that a non offensive funny answer and things will de-escalate/defuse quickly.

The only status indicator on my vehicle is my handicapped placard.

I use it because I need it and have earned it. 🤕
