Had opportunity to shoot a Ruger LCP and a Glock 42

I wouldn't worry about the laser failing on the LCP. Even if it did, you have to remember what the LCP is intended for...up close and personal. It's not a target pistol.

You won't need the sights when the robber is only four feet away from you and demanding your wallet. We're talking "belly button" range here. And that is where the LCP excels. It's small enough to conceal in your "Speed-os" but, with the right ammunition, is adequate enough to shake someone's day up.

You won't be looking at the laser either . . .

I always find it funny when Glock fanboys bash the trigger pull of any other pistol.

I've tried the trigger on the LCPs and found it very nice.
Lots better than the Shield.
Trouble is, the Shield fits my hand better.

The LCP is a belly gun, like my .25 Beretta Bobcat the sights are pretty much there for cosmetics. You use the LCP as just a hand held bullet dispenser, not a combat sidearm. You really don't need to "train " with DAO pocket rockets, you just pull them out and jam on the trigger. You carry an LCP when you can't or don't want to carry a larger gun, it's a compromise, you give up standoff for ease of carry.

The G42 seems like more of a mid size .380, for people who actually want a durable, shoot able .380. IMO I'd rather carry a mid size 9mm like my Nano if I'm gonna have to IWB carry anyway.

Ruger makes the LC380 for the same reason.

Do you have the first gen LCP? They had not so great sights on them, the gen 2 has better sights. I can plink tin cans one handed at 15 yards no problem with my LCP.

Feet, or yards? If you're nailing cans at 45 feet, you're the man! I'm happy keeping them on a 55 gallon drum at that range with my P3AT.

No, that's yards. It's not the easiest gun to do it with but it's doable.
