Well, I went to the local gun show this weekend, and I swapped my new Bodyguard 38 for a 442.

I've defended the BG38 to the hilt, and I still think it is a fine gun, but I decided to go with the 442 for a few reasons.

1. The BG 38 trigger, although it feels smoother and lighter, it bites the hell out of my finger. I like to shoot my guns, not just look at them; after putting about 150 rounds through it, my trigger finger was bleeding at the joint. I could adjust my grip, but it didn't feel as natural. (I realised it was biting me between the trigger and the top strap). The 442 doesn't do that to me.

2. I pocket carry, and the 442 carries easier in terms of size/feel. I'm not sure of the difference, in terms of dimensions, but it feels better in my pocket.

3.This is was my first Smith snub; after having it for a time, I realised I wanted more of a traditional Smith... not such a revolutionary design. (Although my new 442 does have the dreaded internal lock).

4. I also like the fuller grip better; it feels better in my hands.

The laser worked well, however it wasn't a deciding factor for me when I purchased it or traded it...it was just a bonus. The BG shot well in terms of recoil and accuracy for a snub.

The good news is that my Mika's custom made holster fits the 442 almost as well. I guess next, I'll be wanting something shiny that is pinned and recessed.

I put mine up for sale yesterday.
The trigger pull is okay but I have found the cylinder release to be sticky and the switch for the laser is in an awful place and a poor design. It is kind of easy to activate reliably left handed but I have had issues activating it right handed.
Overall I have not warmed to this revolver much at all and my personal feeling is that it seems like a bunch of stuff thrown together just to get in the polymer frame revolver market.
I will keep a traditional J frame or my LCR over the BG38 any day of the week.

I can't comment on the BG, but I found that the 642 IS a
natural shooter for me. If your 442 works, go with it.
Anything you have that doesn't feel RIGHT, you won't trust.
It'll change your perspective, which may change your reactions.

TACC1 nailed it. You have to be comfortable with your weapon to have confidence in it.
