It's that terrifying time once again... The day when the veil which divides this world and the world beyond parts as the sun goes down and the dead walk the earth, if only for one night. It's at times such as these that it is of the utmost importance that everyone remains armed, vigilant, and prepared.
In the past, my defense was much like that of any other... Dress up like a monster, walk among them, blend in. It was easy enough, looking as I do with my pale skin, jagged teeth, wild eyes, and scarred face, barely had to dress up at all. I never armed myself, didn't feel the need to, as I even seem to escape the notice of monsters, one of the few benefits of my curse.
However, these days I prefer to stay indoors on Halloween, with the lights off, doors securely locked, chained, and bolted, with a good weapon at my side.
Still, I know that a lot of folks like to live dangerously, attend parties, take their children trick-or-treating, pretend that all the ghosts, ghouls, werewolves, vampires and all other manner of monstrosities surrounding them are just ordinary human beings clad in extremely convincing costumes. Nevertheless, I would advise caution, and that those who do choose to venture out tonight do so well armed.
Of course, I know that most of the folks here are wiser than that, and that much like myself, choose to remain indoors with access to a small arsenal of weaponry, with each article taylored specifically to deal with a particular threat. The rest already know to arm themselves for otherworldly battle when they go out.
Regardless, I'm curious what folks here would carry if they were to go out tonight. I shall go first, as is customary in such threads.
I know, some may think it silly of me to carry a loadout intended specifically for Zombies when there are so many other threats afoot, but it's important to remember that I have personal experience dealing with Vampires since both my younger brother and older sister are such. Werewolves I'm not to concerned with either because I'm likewise related to them, so they don't seem to recognize me as a food source, but rather as some odd-ball member of their kind with less body hair.
Zombies — on the other hand — don't care what you are, they'll try to take a bit out of you regardless, and unfortunately the only way to stop them once they've begun shambling towards you with dinner plans in mind is to either decapitate or lobotomize them. Plus, since they tend to travel in numbers, it's best to have a scattergun on-hand so that you can drive back or take out multiple zombies with each trigger pull.
I know, I know... Some might say; "Just use Zombie Spray!" But honestly, that stuff smells absolutely revolting, is difficult to wash out of your hair, and seems completely impossible to get out of clothing, and contrary to popular belief, you're supposed to spray it on yourself, not them! No seriously, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. It's like mosquito repellent, you spray it on yourself, and it literally smells like rot so that zombies will think you're one of them and leave you alone.
Furthermore, Zombies will resort to cannibalism if they're hungry enough, so it's unlikely to work at all once they're freshly risen from the grave and looking for breakfast. Also, it attracts Ghouls! So yeah, I'll stick with a Shotgun, thanks.
Now, as to why I chose the specific articles I have chosen for my loadout, I do have an explanation prepared, so please bear with me here...
The Mossberg 590 Shockwave was chosen because it's relatively lightweight, concealable, and as previously mentioned, you want a scattergun when dealing with Zombies because they travel in tight groups.
Yeah, I could carry my Taurus Judge Magnum, but it just isn't as effective as a 12 Gauge, (less pellets, less penetration, too much spead) and I'm not willing to risk my life over it.
The KA-BAR Zomstro was chosen because it was specifically designed for the purpose of beheading Zombies.
The Taurus PT92 was chosen because the 92 Series has a history of dealing with Zombies. After all, the Beretta 92F was the standard issue of the ill-fated Special Tactics And Rescue Service of the Raccoon City Police Department in Colorado prior to the T-Virus outbreak which ultimately ended in the city being "sterilized" by a MOAB, and the surviving members of S.T.A.R.S. have attested to its effectiveness against Zombies.
Furthermore, famed Monster Hunter Sam Winchester carried the Taurus PT92 throughout his carrier and made good use of it against a number of monstrosities, so it's effective against more than just Zombies.
Well, that concludes my dissertation in regards to Halloween Carry. I hope that you found it insightful as well as entertaining and I look forward to hearing back from you in regards to your own Halloween Carry Loadouts.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN, EVERYONE!
