I've had my beater heater, a well worn and much used 2" Model 10-5 for about 8 years. It's one of my favorites, but the hammer spur is a pointy ******* and it digs in to my side when carrying IWB. I almost never shoot it SA. I found a stainless DAO hammer on eBay for a reasonable sum and decided to try the swap.

Look Ma, no SA sear!

When I pulled the rebound slide, I noticed some surface rust starting to form on it so I also spent some time cleaning it up with an oiled fine emery cloth. I also pulled the rest of the innards and cleaned some gunk and grime out that probably should have been done years ago.

All back together, and dry firing functions fine. Hope I get it to the range this week or next to function test with live ammo.

Make sure the new firing pin sticks through the recoil shield as far as the old one. You can do this with the hammers loose in the gun just like in the above pictures. Just push each hammer all the way forward as it would be when fired, and see if the pin protrudes the same amount on both. If not, you may need to move the old firing pin to the new hammer, and check again.

This sounds like a carry gun, and the bobbed hammer makes sense.
You might consider modifying the hammer to DAO. Not likely you'd ever manage to get it cocked SA, but could be tricky to de-fang if that happened on the street.

I bob the hammer on all of my revolvers 3" and shorter. They never get shot SA, so what's the use, plus it makes for a faster carry gun. Just finished a New 3" Python yesterday. I really like the look and it shoots great

It's DAO as I received it, I believe it's an original DAO hammer that never had or had the SA sear removed at the factory.

strictly business. i like it. i'm betting you'll be pleased with the mods. i have a model 10 that i won on gun broker auction. just one other bidder. i wanted it because the grips looked like ivory.

turns out the grips were ivory and the gun had been worked on by someone that wanted a carry piece. the gun no longer wears the ivory but is in my carry clan. don't worry about scratching, sweating on it or bumping it around. save the pretty ones for the bar b q
