I am trying to remove the stock hand guard on my 10 and i am doing it alone. correct me if I'm wrong, loosen the gas block out it up a little then depress the large ring and pull the hand guard off. i do not know if I wasn't able to depress the large ring enough to remove the hand guard, but i tried multiple times and was unable to do it. Do i just need another set of hands or is there a tool i need?

You didn't need to loosen the gas block (I never have on any AR type rifle). The delta ring is very hard to pull back far enough to remove the hand guards. It has to be pulled back as far as possible and squarely. There's a tool out there (looks kinda like a tuning fork) that makes the job a lot easier. But many people have been successful without the tool. Keep trying. I prefer the tool myself. Good luck!

Get the tool if you can, I've seen them for as little as $10 on various web stores. A friend will do in the interim. They can either remove the hand guard while you pull on the ring with both hands or vise versa. But the tool is nice to have when a friend isn't around.

Thank you both

I am buying the tool after I write this haha but once the delta ring is depressed completely, does the hand guard fall off or does it still require some force?

Is this the proper tool

I am new to AR style rifles, does an AR-15 hand guard removal tool work? As in, are delta rings the same size? Does this work?

Even with the delta ring depressed, you'll need to wrestle the handguards off. It's a job that requires patience and determination. You'll find it's a good opportunity to entertain onlookers by inventing new curses

Some hand guards are easier than others. It depends on how snug the two halves fit together and if there is a heat shield inside that some what wraps around the barrel.

The tool you pictured is the one we are talking about.

The AR-15 sized tool will work.

I've done hand guard removal with the too and without. I'd rather have the tool.
