Handguard ~ Not Factory

Shawn,

Yes believe it or not.. Delivered it came to $26 dollars (just the upper receiver, not the hand guard). Still, that's cheap.

Hey I was wondering, with how the free-floater attaches to the reicever on the 15-22, how solid does it feel. Any more play/flex at all compared to the OEM foregrip? I'm toying with the idea of getting the adapter kit and trying something new. Thanks for the input guys, rifles look awesome.

I REALLY like how Ron's setup is coming along...Looks super lightweight and quick. Can you tell me about the gasblock/rail piece you got clamped on the barrel? What is it made of?

Ron didn't give any specifics. But here are some links I found looking for ar 15 gas block picatinny.
Single Rail Gas Block They also have some nice handguards. 1st choice.
If you want to buy one piece for the sight, get this.
Bolt-on Flip Up Front Sight - Clamp on Dovetail Sight Rail
or this

More gas blocks.

No matter who makes the block, you will need bushings. The one piece blocks will need to be drilled and tapped. The split style is probably the best.

Put a BUNCH of rounds downrange today. The barrel got HOTT.
The barrel shroud did not.
The bolt did not
The chamber did not
The all aluminum free float hand guard got warm.
Last round hold open worked perfectly after the spring mod and shooter correction.
So the Free Float Hand Guard Converter took all the heat from the chamber and transfered it to the aluminum hand guard.
If you used a vented hand guard, I would imagine the heat would dissipte even faster. And let more air contact the barrel for even better cooling.
Very happy with the results. Will try vented hand guard and post results.

Just curious, but where did you find a parts breakdown for the rifle, or did you just call S&W for the PN & price?
Reason I ask is that I would like to find out if I can get hold of one of the longer barrel's they put on the Performance rifle.
I might consider making a second upper if I can get the right parts.

+1 :)

I like certain rails, I like true RIS setups with index markers. The stock look wasn't bad but it was time to change it up, do something different.

I am really liking what you have done to your rifle Brett. Interested in your rear stock and if it took any modifications to get it to fit. And while I am asking what scope do you have on your MP 15-22. Hope you haven't already answered these questions before. Thanks

TS,

The rear stock add on is from Command Arms, the scope is a 3-9x42mm Mark III from NcStar, no mods to the stock to get the cheek rest on.

Jody,

I had a guy message me on youtube, I sent him your way for the barrel nut adapter and then had him ship me the upper and I disassembled it for him and put the new barrel nut on and he converted over to a Troy Arms front end with an A2 sight. It turned out phenominal! Wish he was a member here so he could post photos, it was mean looking :)
