I am looking for any creative way to show and display a large number of handguns in a walk-in vault. Something a little classier than a peg board with hooks but still able to see and conserve space. There is also a fair number of long guns, but they are easier but still take up space. I have seen drawers but really don't think that is the way my friend wants to go. Thanks in advance for any ideas and consideration. All my very best my Friends, Joe.

I liked the 45degree white shelves with a series of white pegs I saw once. Adjustable - both shelves up and down as well as the pegs. Clean. Bright background to show off the weapons. Tight to the walls that left room for racks in the middle for upright storage and display of rifles.

You might think about slide out vertical panels like they have in an art museum storage area. That panels are closely spaced to conserve square footage of storage space. You could pull out one panel with several guns on it (both sides) to access or view that group, slide it back in and pull another one. It's kind of like vertical drawers.

If you look up "FBI gun vault" picture you can find one that is similar to the vault I saw in Maryland while taking a Serial Number Restoration course. They were hung on the wall but it was nicely done.

I have seen large boards hinged on one side (top and bottom) and all mounted in a row on a wall - like a big book with wooden pages and the spine mounted to the wall. A viewer could "flip" the pages to see the display, which were on both sides of each page. The top hinge point was mounted very slightly closer to the wall which gave each page a slight rearward cant, causing each to gradually fall one way or the other if left open straight out from the wall.

I should have mentioned the display wasn't for firearms - but for antique tools. And of course it was hand-built - with the tools on display.

I'll be interested to see the ideas posted as we are planning an upgrade to such a walkin. The current idea is to improve on a design used for the past decade like the photos shown of it being used for gun show display. The general idea for improvement is to make a smaller footprint post (the current one is made of rain gutter) and a more lean attachment for the vertical rail (currently uses two strips of modular shelving clips). And make provision for having gun mounting rods on both sides. Replace the use of foam core descriptive material (currently mounted on velcro) with magnetic "buttons" having a QR code and using a small tablet computer with the files to display informative material based on that QR code. Maybe a hinge mounting the barrel pin to the vertical support so the gun can be easily rotated out for viewing. Fairly conventional shelving below these posts to handle unusual items and cased guns. The idea of white shelves at an angle mentioned above is a good idea to consider. Photos of the 2019 SWCA display courtesy of Wiregrassguy.

How about a sheet of 1/2" plywood covered with red velvet or green pool table cloth and screwed to the wall. Then buy some of the small rubber cover studs made to screw into sheetrock to hang things on but just screw them into the plywood.

Have you considered a peg rack? Looks very efficient for maximizing space. You can buy these or build something similar.
