It’s not a S&W but I have a Ruger Mark II Bull Barrel that I would like to equip with a scope. The only scopes I currently own are on my hunting rifles. I don't have any experience with handgun scopes. I will be shooting targets out to 100 yards. In your estimation, what would be a good choice in a scope under $150?

Also, is there a good low profile scope mount for the Ruger?

I have a Mark II target model I just purchased, and I mounted a Bushnell
red dot scope, which runs in the neighborhood of $70-$90, depending on where you buy it. It comes with a set of rings, has a 30mm tube, and a 6moa variable intensity dot. They also have some which have red/green changeable dots, etc.

I put a Weigand mount on it. I've only had it out to 50 yards, but it seems to group ammo pretty well (2-3"). I'm still sorting through brands, but it seems to like Wolf Match Target the best.

my .02 shoot a similar gun wih a scope thats a LER. Unless your dead nuts behind the true center of the scope you wont see the image. Its considerbly different then a rifle scope. If your going to be shooting from a rest/bag you may be ok but offhand....forgetaboutit...

try a red dot with adjustable size dot...it may be your ticket...far easier to shoot offhand and not experience the parralex effect from a magnified scope.

I can't give you an answer in the $150 price range, but I use Leupold scopes on all my scoped handguns.

I have never had a problems with recoil from the big bores 44 Mag, 454, 500, etc doing any harm to these scopes. I use Leupold's 2.5-8x32mm Handgun Scope or the FX-II 2x20mm Handgun Scope.

I like Leupold no BS warrant. You break and we will fix or replace the scope for free.

I have a Bushnell red dot with built-in choice of red and green dots, plus two dot sizes and a lighted cross hair. Works good for hunting -- the green is great for very low light/night use. Best red dot IMHO is the Ultradot. I have a 1" on my M41 and a 30mm on my 1911 for Bullseeye competition.

As far as actual scopes go, I picked up a used Bauch and Lomb 2X for about $100 and mounted it on my Super Redhawk -- very nice scope! Man! That must have been 17 yers ago already!

For shooting out to 100 yards, I would not go higher than a 2x.

I have Burris 2X scopes on two of my handguns. You might find one used for $150 with some looking.
There are Bushnell and Tasco handgun scopes in that range.

Id either go with a red dot or if you use a regular cross hair dot dont go over a 2 X, you'll probably get too much scope wobble on your target if your like me.

BSA 2X has been a great scope for my 22 pistols. 1X red dots are fun too.

I made the mistake of buying a 4x scope for my Ruger MII's

It's way too much scope. Like the others said get a Red Dot or if you get a actual scope keep it at 2x or less.

But if anyone wants a Simmons 4x handgun scope cheap, let me know,:)

If you are going to shoot much at 100 yards, get a variable, 2-7 X or similar. Use it at 2X or 4X at closer targets and 6X to 7X out at 100 yards. If Field of view is important to you, a 4X can serve you out to 100 yards, but is often too much at 25 yards. Also, parallax can be a problem up close. A red dot is a wonderful addition to any .22RF handgun. I have them on all my bullseye guns, and prefer the Millet with the variable size dot.

A buddy of mine has a Swift 2X on his Mark 2 Competition model. The thing seems to put a hole wherever you put the crosshairs. It outshoots his bull barrel 10-22 by a ton.

OCD1....If it's silver, shoot me a PM. I have a stainless 14" Contender with a bipod that will give it a nice home.

BTW, my Mark II wears a Millett SP1 on a Bushnell mount that will eat out the 10 ring at 25 yds. I haven't tried yet, but I'm sure that the longer ranges would be doable as well.

Nope it's black. I had it on a stainless MII and with the blued mount and black grips it looked really nice, Good Contrast.

I also have a Millet red dot on my MKII and like it very much. I shoot prehaps to 25 yards with it but would put something with magnification if I wanted to shoot past that range.

I use the Millet also and have had pretty good luck with it out to 50 Yards on my 22A

I'm not a expert by any means but everyone I speak with all concur with this. The best scope in the world is worthless if it flies off the handgun. The larger calibers and heavy loads will require a good, no a excellent mounting system and or rings. Several guys I shoot with have them on Super Redhawks, and they all went through a learning curve of the scope flying off at the wrong time.
