I was actually looking at a Taurus 709 Slim and a Kahr when I spotted the Shield. I was at a gunshow, so no firing or triggering allowed, but did get to hold all 3. The Taurus gets good reviews and is the least expensive at $289, but I didn't find it comfortable to hold. The Kahr was priced in the middle at $369 and felt good in my hand and has the lowest weight at 15 oz. The Shield 9mm felt great, but certainly seemed heavier and thicker than either of the others (though the list weight is the same at the Taurus). At $479, it was beyond "impulse buy" range for me and I hadn't researched it.

Of course, now I know that that price is above MSRP, but they can be hard to find right now. I'm kinda wishing I had purchased it anyway. But then if I'd hated it or found crappy industry reviews, I would have been mad at myself. I was hoping to get all three together at a rental range, but that might be a pipe-dream at this point. Being a gun guy sucks some times. : )

Wow should have jumped on it! I love my shield with over 500 rounds no problems what so ever and extremely easy to conceal! Shoots like a full size pistol. I have yet to see one in person where i live! And by all accounts no one thinks they will get any in till next year. I want another for the wife if i can find one i would pick it up quick!

Yeah, they flew off the shelves here in the People's Republik of Illinois:D

I was able to obtain the Shield 9mm when it was first released. Now, I consider myself fortunate. Easy to shoot and very easy to carry conseal.

No, you did the correct thing by not purchasing that Shield for $479. That's some $80 more than the going rate for one. I paid MSRP for my 40 Shield ($449). I really wish I had waited and found one closer to the $399 price that everyone else I know paid for theirs.

I actually quit buying anything from the LGS that jacked the price up on me. They had sold several 9mm shields for $399, but when the 40 came in & they knew I wanted it, they set the price at MSRP. I know that I could have walked away, but I just couldn't make my legs do the walking, so my billfold did the talking. :o

Waiting for a Shield to show up at a decent price is more rewarding than allowing someone to gouge you with a price that is way too high, just because they know you are lusting after one. Good job controlling your emotions. I wish I could say the same for myself...

I'm hoping after the plant gets back up and running they send a big batch to my favored retailer who has them listed for $335, but on backorder.... :(

Similar story here regarding the pricing. LGS got 5 shields in today, but the price is now $479.00. I said I don't want one that bad and left. I'll wait till the prices drop like they always do.

To ease the pain see if the LGS will throw in a box of free HD ammo r mag if they have them. This might make the inflated prices a bit more palatable and you still go home with a new gun! Mine has always been willing to throw in a freebie or two. You would think the crooks charging over MSRP might sleep a little better doing that.

I stopped into a local Law Enforcement shop today. He said S&W only put these onto the LE lists on Aug 1 and he just ordered a batch. Will be selling for $339...Law Enforcement only, of course. He DID have some mags, so I bought one 7-rounder for $29.99

I bought a Shield earlier this week in Houston. When I checked out the register rang up $479.00. I asked the cashier about it and she called the manager over. I told him they were $449.00 and he told her that was the price when I ordered it and the would honor it. Apparently the price may be going up because of the popularity. I saw one on Bud's site today for $523.00. That is outrageous. And they were out of stock at that price. Academy had them originally at $399.00 but they haven't had any in months in our area.

I don't think MSRP has changed, but when there are more buyers than product, you have a seller's market. In a free market, the seller can ASK whatever they want and it is up to the buyer to say, "No way, Jose." I've got my name in at a well-respected shop whose price is still $399...whenever they get any in.

The price is going up on the shield! If they were price originally at 450 and msrp was 499 this gun would still be sold out. If u want one and find one bite the bullet and get it. Ur gonna wait for a year and still pay 450+ when they go up due to demand.

Wait. $399-$419 is still the going rate. I can't believe Glock doesn't have a single stack on the market yet but the .45 XDs has cut into demand for the Shield. I bid $56 for two Shield mags last week off E-Bay, and won the bid. $61 to my door with shipping. Give it a few more weeks.
