I was actually looking at a Taurus 709 Slim and a Kahr when I spotted the Shield. I was at a gunshow, so no firing or triggering allowed, but did get to hold all 3. The Taurus gets good reviews and is the least expensive at $289, but I didn't find it comfortable to hold. The Kahr was priced in the middle at $369 and felt good in my hand and has the lowest weight at 15 oz. The Shield 9mm felt great, but certainly seemed heavier and thicker than either of the others (though the list weight is the same at the Taurus). At $479, it was beyond "impulse buy" range for me and I hadn't researched it.
Of course, now I know that that price is above MSRP, but they can be hard to find right now. I'm kinda wishing I had purchased it anyway. But then if I'd hated it or found crappy industry reviews, I would have been mad at myself. I was hoping to get all three together at a rental range, but that might be a pipe-dream at this point. Being a gun guy sucks some times. : )
